I know there are several reports about the changes to the default actions of the icon and text links for tables in the left navigation. I don't have a problem with such changes.

I would like to see the icon reflect what the link does. So, if the icon is set to show the structure (seems to be the current default), then use the structure icon rather not the browse icon. I think this would add greatly to UI consistency. It would only need to be determined once before iterating the table list.
