I downloaded the latest release of PHPix2 and tried a few things to
execute shell code.  I was unable to run anything, but I=E2=80=99m not conv=
inced
it=E2=80=99s safe.  One of the reasons I now generate static HTML for my ph=
oto
albums is so I don=E2=80=99t have to worry about this sort of thing.

It looks like this person was just trying things out by hand.  Do you
see any mail to this address in your mail server logs?

Recent versions of PHP have a built-in function to escape strings for
shell commands.  This should be done in the showpic.php:CreateImage
function, just before the call to system.

But I think it could be a Good Idea to revue the entire code and to look for potential abuse possibilities.

You cannot have an image smaller than the original size. and as your pict=
ures are already
quite small...

As for the thumbnails, I don't know. Can you setup a page calling the fun=
ction phpinfo()
so we can see what your platform is ?

Hello developers of PHPix.

I'm trying to install your great program and encounter a problem:
the generation of thumbnails does not work, nor the display of smaller sizes than 'original'

I uploaded with FTP, renamed the files acc the instructions and the file permission of CACHE is on 777.
On your support pages I couldn't find a solution

What did I do wrong?
please help me out.

hi, i tried to install your script to what i think is a T and its not =
working for me... after I finish I go to the dir. and I get this error =
message...

All you have to do now is type "make" in the phpix directory. Read the =
INSTALL file for more information.

Im doing the FTP only install, what does that mean above... it looks =
like its directions for someone that has ssh access.

I actually have a couple of friends who converted PHPix to use path info,
so you can wget a whole album onto a CD and send it to your parents. They
call it PHPixDir. I've been thinking of integrating it into the main
codebase, but it would break the multi-user stuff... and I'm too lazy.

Hey Scott!  That rules.

Here's the deal with PHPix2: I started the project becuase the PHPix guy
wasn't answering my email.  Then he started answering them, and he was
mighty miffed that I'd forked the code.  Now he's disappeared again.  In
the meantime I have written *three* new photo albums, all called
photobob, each one a little less user-friendly than the one before it.
While I was working on photobob v1, SourceForge saw fit to delete my
account.  I can't seem to rouse the other guy who's active on PHPix2, so
both projects are effectively dead.

What I would suggest doing is: Try to get the PHPix guy to merge in
your changes.  Give him a month to get back to you.  If he doesn't get
back to you by then, fork the code a second time.  Call it something
else, though; something not based on the name "PHPix", even though it's
a cool name.  I am giving you explicit permission to take over PHPix2.

If that's too much work for you, just submit your changes as a patch and
hope that people pick them up.  I think PHPix and PHPix2 are fading into
irrelevance, unless someone can update one of them and repackage that
update.

That someone could be you, Scott!  Just think of the newfound fame!  And
beautiful photo albums!  And the ladies, Scott, the ladies!

format in PHP4.3.x.

Using the default php.ini, you can use PHPix2 using these updated files.

How would we go about getting this updated in the project?

Somewhere along the line, you aren't specifying the right path.  Look at
convert.inc and make sure your $convert variable specifies the FULL PATH
to the convert program.

Hi Doug.

I don't think that was ever added in to the main distribution, but maybe
another person in this list has the patch.

You might want to have a look at gallery, it seems to have a very active
development community and has some really nice features.

I had a question about the use of a custom directory.jpg icon for the 
albums.  I noticed it was listed in the patch section of sourceforge, but I 
can't seem to get it to work.  Was this patch added to PHPIX2 and if not 
where can I get the modified code?
