This is a easy request. (Well, easy for me to say!) :)
How about setting up the index.phtml file so that it
shows one picture from each album subdirectory? I use
PHPix to display old men's magazines that I've scanned,
and would love for it to take the first picture from
each directory (in my case, the magazine cover) and
display it on the main page.
BTW, PHPix seriously rocks! I've used several gallery
programs and this one sets up very quickly, cleanly and
easily. There's a Sourceforge project called Gallery
that suits my needs on one site I own, which encourages
users to share pictures. For setting up my magazine
albums, PHPix is by far the best.
It's incredibly fast compared to similar ones I've
tried. Most of them re-create the thumbnails and pages
every time someone accesses the site. This slows things
down considerably. PHPix is the only "on the fly" album
program that thinks to leave the thumbnails intact for
the next visitor.
Thanks alot for a great program, guys!

Would you rather PHPix picks a random photo from the
directory, or somehow specify one? Actually it could do
both.... if you turn on the option to "preview" the folder,
it will pick a random photo unless you have a ".preview"
file that lists the photo to show...
This feature will definitely be in the next version. Thank
you for your input.

Thanks, Panthar!
BTW, I used the patch at
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=483775&group_id=17252&atid=317252
that allows the use of other thumbnails, and it works great.
Can't wait to see the "official" version. Thanks!

Arrgh - that patch is from "PHPix2", which is a "fork" of
PHPix that someone started when I was too busy to put in a
few features into PHPix. He started a new project and
called it "PHPix2". I wish he had called it something
different, but oh well.
Anyways, i guess I could still look at the patch and borrow
some ideas :)

Oh, wow! Sorry about that.... Yeah, I wish he'd named it
something else, too. I thought that was the current release
of your work. Sorry.

Eric or anyone else,
I am having trouble setting up PHPix 2.0.3. I'm familiar with
HTML and thought the PHPix script would be easy to set up,
but I just can't seem to make it work. The company hosting
my website reports that I have access to ImageMagix and
GD, but I just can't seem to make the thing work. Any
chance you could walk me through the install?
