If any of the original developers are still around, do you still intend to maintain the project? If not, are you okay with me to clone the repository for further developments (aiming to maintain compatibility with more recent PHP versions as a first thing)

PhpGedView is NOT fully abandoned, but there are no new features in the works.
I'm still posting occasional fixes to the SVN repository. That's where you get the latest-and-greatest version that's compatible with every version of PHP from 5.3.1 through 8.2.
I try to correct incompatibilities caused by "improvements" to the PHP software as they are pointed out to me. PHP 8, with its intense dislike of NULL caused a LOT of problems; I'm not sure I got them all.
Other interested parties (not listed as "developers") pitch in from time to time, and are working on getting the program to work with the latest Google Maps. (I'm not interested in that: it's a moving target.)
I have no inclination to update the "official" download link or schedule periodic updates. If somebody else wants to update the official downloads by using an SVN snapshot as the starting point -- be my guest, but talk to me first.

I have an instance running on my server genealogie.hackemesser.de and was
just wondering because I haven't seen a release in x years, and on my
server it is the last thing requiring PHP < 8.x :)

Please e-mail me directly at gkroll (at) keldine (dot) ca, to tell me what warnings you are experiencing with PHP 8.3 . I would like to eliminate all warning messages.
