I installed PGV (also as a Joomla module) two months ago, and after one or two small issues (handled literally within seconds by fisharebest), the system has run flawlessly.
Now, in addition to the base genealogy, I would like to expand the capability of the site to include a tool for collaborative authoring of the family history. (I'm currently using Joomla to drive the collaborative blog, but this is not ideal.)
I envisage a series of short stories or articles, each having geographic and chronological start- and end-points, and including one or more characters (i.e. people), a category (a-la Joomla), etc. There should then be a way of extracting collections of stories using one or more search and ordering criteria, including: event-types, families/individuals/blood-lines, place-names, date-range, theme/category, etc. Notice that some of the criteria already exist within the genealogical data, others not.
1. Can anyone recommend something that can do this, preferably alongside PGV (perhaps sharing GEDCOM files)? Or...
2. Has anyone come across an active FOSS development that has the potential to address these needs (perhaps requiring adaptation & modification)? Or...
3. Can anyone recommend any on-line history-centric collaborative writing tool?

I would think the most flexible tool for this sort of thing would be a WIKI installation of some sort. Here is a page comparing various option:
This is the main reason that I started integrating PGV with bitweaver some time ago. I also want to replace the PGV 'media management' with a fully integrated image/document management gallery.
Unfortunately the current restructuring of the database interface has blown most of the integration I already had completed and I'm waiting for that to be completed before I reassess the situation :(

The work is pretty much completed. I've written a load of documentation, aimed at programmers, to help them migrate code from the old interface to the new one. It is all really simple. If you need any examples to go with the documentation, have a look at includes/functions/functions_db.php.

I agree. A lightweight Wiki would be a great starting point; one that can be bridged with PGV perhaps.
