You don't edit the files, only their permissions. The changing of permissions of files between Read (R) and Write (W) for the three levels of access (owner, group and world) is a rudimentary function of an admin for almost any site. I suggest you read more about these actions as it is impossible to explain here. (Most FTP programs allow the changing of file permissions.) -Stephen

This is no doubt elementary but….
I'm running Ubuntu 10.10
I have downloaded and unzipped source files
Then copied the phpgedview directory to my website
I get to the bit that says "On the webserver, change the permissions of the following files and directories to be writable by the web server:
But don't know how to edit the files on the server.
Can anyone help?

Thanks Stephen - thats given me something to go on
I decided to start again from scratch.
Removed all files from the phpgedview directory on my website.
Downloaded a fresh set of install files.
Moved them all to website and HEY PRESTO! It works, couldn't have been simpler.
