    This is no doubt elementary but….

    I'm running Ubuntu 10.10

    I have downloaded and unzipped source files

    Then copied the phpgedview directory to my website

    I get to the bit that says "On the webserver, change the permissions of the following files and directories to be writable by the web server:

    But don't know how to edit the files on the server.

    Can anyone help?

    You don't edit the files, only their permissions. The changing of permissions of files between Read (R) and Write (W) for the three levels of access (owner, group and world) is a rudimentary function of an admin for almost any site. I suggest you read more about these actions as it is impossible to explain here. (Most FTP programs allow the changing of file permissions.)

    I decided to start again from scratch.

    Removed all files from the phpgedview directory on my website.

    Downloaded a fresh set of install files.

    Moved them all to website and HEY PRESTO!  It works, couldn't have been simpler.

    Thanks for the help

    Glad to hear it.
    Just one point =>

    Can anyone help?

    and

    Thanks for the help

    You have already acknowledged that this thread was a plea for help. Perhaps next time you can make any similar 'help' request on the 'Help' forum, and not in open discussion?
