    This is a known problem with any PhpGedView version prior to 4.3.0 SVN 7148. It was fixed on 20 Dec 2016, in SVN version 7148. The error only happens on a completely new PhpGedView installation that is running Mysql 5.6 or later.

    You must download the "SVN" version of PhpGedView, and install that. Note also that there are a few fixes coming for problems that apply to PHP 5.7 and that can affect PHP 5.6 users under some circumstances. These fixes will appear in SVN within 3 or 4 days.

    I believe you are just starting out with PhpGedView. If this is true, you should really consider using Webtrees in preference to PhpGedView. Webtrees has a much more active user community, and is well supported by its developers. PhpGedView support is sort of hit-or-miss.
