I just started to use it but I am working with japanese characters in utf-8 encoding. when I try to read the excel file it does diplay the japanese characters.
Does anyone knows how to solve this problem, please any help appreciated.

Did you mean that Japanese characters are not displayed?
So did you remember to use this:
$data->setOutputEncoding('UTF-8');
I have succesfully tested the script reading Japanese kanji from the spreadsheet with valid UTF-8 output.
