Hi, I am just setting up phpESP, and would like to add a blank line between the questions on the survey. Looks like the file to be edited is the survey_render.inc file. Has someone already made this change...is it posted somewhere? Sorry if this question has been asked before, I just joined the list. Terrie |

When I create a survey, the "FIELD NAME" zone, in the section "QUESTIONS", is not length' restricted. But when I export the survey to a CSV file format and open the file, the field is truncated to 10. Where can I modify this ? (I have search in the EXPORT.INC and SURVEY_EXPORT_CSV.INC files nut didn't find anything). (/usr/local/lib/php/contrib/phpESP) If not, then you need to edit manage.php (and handler*.php) and change the path to the INI file. Also the whole path up to the INI file must be at least executable (chmod o+x) by the user apache runs as. -James |

Thanks for showing me that line. =) Since there is an "@" in front of the mysql_connect(), all error messages are suppressed. This is normally ok, becuase I check the return value. However, when the mysql extension is not loaded, it does not return -- the error is fatal. Would it be possible for you to remove the extension and see if this bit of code catches it (when placed before the mysql_connect())? if(!extension_loaded('mysql')) { echo('<b>Mysql extension not loaded. Aborting.</b>'); exit; } For the rest of you who are having similar problems, please verify that you have the mysql extension loaded, you can do this from the phpinfo() page. -James |

I have win2k, php4, apache, and mysql working with numerous applications (over a dozen). I can't seem to get this one to work. I still get the blank page (source is blank), nothing in apache logs... not sure where to turn next. I did find another php survey app that seems to work OK - naboo poll. Not as many features, but it may have to do. -----Original Message----- From: php...@li... [mailto:php...@li...]On Behalf Of Danie Roux Sent: Wednesday, January 23, 2002 3:04 AM To: James E. For all of you getting a blank page... Check the following things. First of all, look at the apache error log and see what it says. Second, look at you phpESP.ini file; make sure it doesn't have any problems (matching quotes etc). Third, view source on the "blank page" and make sure it is truely blank. For those of you running unix, if apache is crashing, try to get it to make a core file. With a core file I could get a stack trace and determine where PHP (or apache) bombed out. For those of you running windows, install unix instead. =) Sorry windows people, problems are much easier to track down in unix. Mail me *off-list* with what is in the apache error log, or if you manage to get a stack trace. Please include what operating system (kernel & distro), apache version, php version, and phpESP version. If your problem is intermittent, are you using a hosting service, are your servers behind a load balancer, server farm? Thanks, -James > I am experiencing these same issues running on Win2K, > Apache 1.3.22, and php 4.0.6. All I get is a blank > page - no error messages. Firstly, you didn't install v1.6. That must be the revision number on one file (each file has one). The version of phpESP is in the name of the tarbal you downloaded (hopefully v1.3, as in "phpESP-1.3.tar.gz"). > I'm getting the following parse error and fatal error when I try to open my > admin page (for the first time) in my browser: > > Parse error: parse error, expecting `')'' in > /home/retrieve/public_html/lib/php/contrib/phpESP/admin/phpESP.ini on line > 68 > > Fatal error: Call to undefined function: esp_where() in > /home/retrieve/public_html/lib/php/contrib/phpESP/admin/manage.php on line > 73 > > Line 68 on phpESP.ini is the database value: > 'db_host' => 'localhost', > > Here's the snippet around it: > // database connection info > 'db_host' => 'localhost', > 'db_user' => 'myuser', > 'db_pass' => 'mypassword', > 'db_name' => 'retrieve_phpesp', > > As far as line 73 on manage.php: > include(esp_where($where)); This probably is happening because there is an error in "phpESP.ini" *above* line 68. PHP is not especially good at locating errors; it is probably expecting a ")" on line 68, because it got confused by something on line 66 or 67. Make sure you have matching quotes and such on the lines before 68. (You have two single quotes on line 65 where there should be one.) > This is the first time I've initialized a database in SSH (I'm very new to > this). Well, I'd have to agree with you, you should change the path again. The main point is that by putting the files in /usr/local/lib is that they are *not* in a subdirectory of "htdocs" or "public_html". It is a Bad Thing to have them in a subdirectory of either "htdocs" or "public_html"! If they are, then chances are very high that someone can very easily read the database host/user/password just by downloading "phpESP.ini". For example, I would bet that from the info you gave in your email, I could use this url: http://66.78.15.118/lib/php/contrib/phpESP/admin/phpESP.ini and read your database password. Please move the files to: ~/lib/php/contrib/phpESP (or something) and just copy the "manage.php" to some place in "public_html" (and edit the paths once again). After you have done that, please change the password on the database. > Any ideas? Thanks for your help. This looks like a great program. Can't > wait to use it. > > -kristie Take it easy, -James |

Periodically when using phpESP (both the administrative interface as well as when "responding" to a survey), the httpd daemon processing the request will SIGSEGV. I'd like to go ahead and upgrade to php4.1.1, but I only want to do that if there is some level of confidence that it will resolve the issue. Hi, I'm testing PHPEsp 1.3 on a linux (RH 7.1) box with Apache 1.3.6, nice product. So far everything works OK, apart from some teething problems. However, one thing puzzles me: Checkboxes. Although they are listed in the question_type table (type 5) and have a table of their own (response_multiple) the responses end up nowhere. Has anyone else been able to replicate this problem? rgds... Ulf Preisler |

Hi List, I just installed v 1.6 2002/01/16 (or rather I'm in the process of wrapping up the install!) http://66.78.15.118/lib/php/contrib/phpESP/admin/ I'm getting the following parse error and fatal error when I try to open my admin page (for the first time) in my browser: Parse error: parse error, expecting `')'' in /home/retrieve/public_html/lib/php/contrib/phpESP/admin/phpESP.ini on line 68 Fatal error: Call to undefined function: esp_where() in /home/retrieve/public_html/lib/php/contrib/phpESP/admin/manage.php on line 73 Line 68 on phpESP.ini is the database value: 'db_host' => 'localhost', Here's the snippet around it: // database connection info 'db_host' => 'localhost', 'db_user' => 'myuser', 'db_pass' => 'mypassword', 'db_name' => 'retrieve_phpesp', As far as line 73 on manage.php: include(esp_where($where)); This is the first time I've initialized a database in SSH (I'm very new to this). But after I put in the command line for it, I brought up the db to make sure it exists and showed the tables, which were there. So I'm assuming I initialized it properly. I used the same paths as suggested in the install readme, but had to change the usr, etc. portion of the existing path to home, etc. -- I may as well have simplified it since I had to change it anyway, but I had already created the directories. Any ideas? Thanks for your help. This looks like a great program. Can't wait to use it. -kristie |

Well, I have been unsuccesful in forcing apache to actually dump a core file. I was trying to avoid getting this system out-of-spec w/r/t the RH7.2 distribution, but from what I can see, your phpESP package is something that we'll use ALOT around here; so it is prolly going to be worth it. -garyf On Mon, 21 Jan 2002, James E. Hey Gary, Does apache leave a core file? If you could give me a stack trace of apache when it crashes I might be able to figure out what is wrong. To do that you would type something like: $ gdb /path/to/apache-binary /path/to/core ... ... (gdb) bt ... (gdb) quit and send me what it says when you type "bt". Most likely it is not leaving a core file though, so unless you have apache compiled with debug symbols, and run it through gdb in forground mode, you won't be able to get a stack trace. Php 4.0.6 has some security holes in it, you'd be best off to upgrade it as soon as you can. Email me off list if you get a stack trace, or want/have more details. -James On Mon, 21 Jan 2002, Gary Faulkner wrote: > Welp.. > > Should have given my platform; I'm on a RedHat 7.2 box, apache server > (v1.3.22), php(4.0.6). > > -garyf > > On Mon, 21 Jan 2002 fl...@we... wrote: > > > i have the same problem! > > but i use windows2000 maybe thats the reason!? > > all seems be fine... but the script dose not run :-( , > > just get a blank page and no errors, weird > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > > From: "Gary Faulkner" <ga...@ne...> > > To: <php...@li...> > > Sent: Monday, January 21, 2002 1:20 PM > > Subject: [phpesp-general] question on phpESP 1.3 and php4.0.6 > > > > > > Has anyone else using phpESP experienced problems with php4.0.6 when > > running phpESP (I'm sure this is a php4.0.6 problem, but hoping for a > > workaround rather than having to take php4.0.6 off of my production > > system). > > > > Periodically when using phpESP (both the administrative interface as well > > as when "responding" to a survey), the httpd daemon processing the request > > will SIGSEGV. > > > > I'd like to go ahead and upgrade to php4.1.1, but I only want to do that > > if there is some level of confidence that it will resolve the issue. > > > > Thanks! > > > > -garyf > > > > -- > > Gary Faulkner > > ga...@ne... |
