I've created a survey which had been activated and ran as expected. I've recently duplicated this survey and restricted responses to a private = group. The submitted results have not been saved. I don't understand why this problem has arisen and would really appreciate = any ideas. The body of the page looks like this: <?php $sid=3D14; include('/Library/WebServer/Documents/phpESP/public/= handler-prefix.php');?> <html> <head> <title>Survey Title</title> <link href=3D"http://217.40.212.98/phpESP/public/css/stylesheet.css" = rel=3D"stylesheet" type=3D"text/css" /> </head> <body> <?php $sid=3D17; include("/Library/WebServer/Documents/phpESP/public/= handler.php");?> </body> </html> --=20 Robin Gower 0161 860 0344 0779 562 3188 |

I am evaluating phpESP to see if I can use it to create self-evaluation surveys. The question writing and survey taking portion are satisfactory and will work well. I am able to write php code, but am unfamiliar with the phpESP coding structure. What I would like to know is whether it is possible for me to obtain the survey ID and respondent ID for use in the "thank you" page. If so, I can access mySQL to obtain the responses for that respondent and give the respondent immediate feedback. E.g. on a 40 question survey items 1,5,6,8,10 are strength A, items 3,4,7,9,11 are Strength B, etc. I suppose it would be possible to write the 2 ids to a session variable and then have thankyou.php pick them up and process them. Is there an easier way? Keith |

I got the latest phpESP cvs version and I get the following error. [ Incorrect User ID or Password, or your account has been disabled/expired. ] I can login to the mysql db as user 'phpesp' on the server but from the page I can't. I have changed the passwords fields to char(64) using the instructions in the upgrades doc. The mysql db phpesp is there and has all the data from my questionnaires but the login is elusive. I am running php version 5.0.4. The results of test are here. Thanks for any help. http://htnweb2.musc.edu/phpESP/admin/test.php I also tried changing phpESP_current to just phpESP like my old ini but still no login. // Base URL for phpESP $ESPCONFIG['base_url'] = $ESPCONFIG['proto'] . $server['HTTP_HOST'] . '/phpESP_current/'; I'm on Fedora C4 with PHP5.0.4 -- Best Regards, John |

I'm trying to make sure I have a good understanding of phpESP forms. So I've been going through and checking what the various hidden input values do, but I'm stuck at this one: <input type=3D"hidden" name=3D"userid" value=3D""> I know that sid stores the surveyid which is used in the primary response table and related to response_id. I know that rid equals the response_id which is used to relate questions to the response and hence the survey. And of course sec is used to forward the user through the various sections. But I can't seem to find a value/use for userid. Is it used in the authentication process? It seems to store the users IP address. But if any value is pages via the url such as ?p=3D4 it will then store p=3D4 as the userid instead of the users IP. Can anyone give me an overview of what the userid does? Alnisa |

Hi Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who assisted in solving my problem with using custom templates (forms) with phpESP. After many, many hours and lots of hair pulling the solution turned out to be far simplier than we thought. BACKGROUND Because phpESP doesn't handle question branching, and also just because the writers of this survey were super wordy; there were a number of reasons why the auto-generated survey from phpESP would not be suitable as the final survey. So, I had naively assumed, I could extract each section page, reformat it as needed, then submit data back to phpESP and have it handle all the other processing. It sounded simple enough, but the reality took four different minds over 60hrs, and was leading us down the path off practically recoding the system, for a single survey. Not good. SOLUTION After throwing out a number of solutions, happenstance landed me on this one, which works pretty well, though it does have one glitch. Basically, the solution involves creating an html include for each page of the survey. The include code starts after the form headers, and ends before the submission buttons. This code has everything formatted as we want it (multiple questions grouped, reorder, field and textbox size modifications, etcc.) Use the /survey.php file so that you can format everything besides the form. Remember to include the handler-prefix.php and handler.php include calls; as specified by phpESP. Inside /css a new class called "hidden" was created, set to display: none; . Inside /public/handler.php line 158 <?php=09survey_render($sid,$HTTP_POST_VARS['sec'],$msg); ?> was changed to <div class=3D"hidden"><?php=09survey_render($sid,$HTTP_POST_VARS['sec'],$msg); ?></div>. Then additional code was added to call the various forms. Either an if/else or case statement would have worked, we used the if/else. For each form the code required the field values and the form name, like below: [CODE] else if ($sec=3D=3D"2") { =09$formhtml =3D file_get_contents('http://nahic.ucsf.edu/phpESP/public/for= m2.html'); =09echo replace_values($formhtml, get_values(42,55)); =09} [/CODE] The key turned out to be, DO NOT BYPASS the rendoring engine. Once we allowed survey_render to process per normal all the other features kicked back in. GLITCH The one glitch in this hack is that although login, save, resume and submit all work properly now, when resuming, the duplicate/formatted form DOES NOT display data. If you view code, you'll see the data values are there in the hidden form, just not the formatted one. I'm still working on that issue. But otherwise everything else, that I've tested works. So if anyone else runs into this issue on a tough survey, hopefully my hours upon hours of struggle will be to your benefit. Also, if your running more than one survey simultaneously, duplicate the survey.php and handler.php files, then rename them. That way your adjustments don't effect other surveys. DEMO See it in action at http://nahic.ucsf.edu/phpESP/survey.php login Wisconsin no password. THANKS!!! |

At 8:53 AM -0400 10/9/05, Matthew Gregg wrote: >I'll have to look around the code to see if this would be possible >or addable. I know a sec=# is POST'ed from the survey on multiple >page surveys. It might be enough to accept that from a GET instead. >I'll get back to you. First off, thanks for all the help and suggestions, some proved quite useful. My original goal was to get phpESP working with custom html files, so that questions could be regrouped, and organized in a format different than that provided by the auto-generated system. Originally I thought redirects and cookies/sessions would work, but life was more complicated than that. So in the quest to get this system working, it was determined that the best way to proceed would be to adjust the /public/handler.php file. Since ONLY this survey would be active during the time period, I figured we could easily restore the handler to its former state. So I worked with another programmer, and they adjusted the handler.php file after the end of the JavaScript which includes function other_check(name). The following text was included: <?php function get_values($startnum,$endnum) { //fetch sql entries from $startnum to $endnum //return array of values //$values = array(); /* $index=1; for($i=$startnum; $i<=$endnum; i++) { //fetch sql entry at $i $thisvalue="?"; $values[$index]=$thisvalue; } */ return 0; } function replace_values($formhtml, $values) { //match <input ... > strings in $formhtml //replace old value attributes with value stored in $values array /* $formhtml = preg_replace($pattern, "<input value=$values[1] $1", $formhtml); for($i=1; $i<=count($values); i++) { //match } */ return $formhtml; } $sec=$HTTP_POST_VARS['sec']; if ($sid==3) { if ($msg!="") echo "<font color=\"#ff0000\">$msg</font><br><br>"; if ($sec=="1") { $formhtml = file_get_contents('http://nahic.ucsf.edu/phpESP/public/form1.html'); echo replace_values($formhtml, get_values(1,41)); } else if ($sec=="2") { $formhtml = file_get_contents('http://nahic.ucsf.edu/phpESP/public/form2.html'); echo replace_values($formhtml, get_values(42,55)); } else if ($sec=="3") { $formhtml = file_get_contents('http://nahic.ucsf.edu/phpESP/public/form3.html'); echo replace_values($formhtml, get_values(56,102)); } else if ($sec=="4") { $formhtml = file_get_contents('http://nahic.ucsf.edu/phpESP/public/form4.html'); echo replace_values($formhtml, get_values(103,121)); } else if ($sec=="5") { $formhtml = file_get_contents('http://nahic.ucsf.edu/phpESP/public/form5.html'); echo replace_values($formhtml, get_values(122,140)); } } else { survey_render($sid,$sec,$msg); } ?> Basically just a quick script that allows the forms to be encased in the system. This partially works. If you go to http://nahic.ucsf.edu/phpESP/survey.php and log in you'll see that the buttons basically work, the problem is: If the user selects save/submit option, when they resume they are not taken back to the page that they stopped on; which would be fine, if I could get the forms to echo back priorly submitted data. But it seems as if prior data rendering is handled by the /admin/function/survey_render.inc file which we're not using. Does anyone have any ideas on if its possible to use the phpESP database queries to retrieve data, without rendering it (displaying the html)? Basically, what I'd like to do is revise the included forms so they contain <?=$field?> statements to echo back the current data. I'm also willing to have the echo form be unformatted, so long as the next paged called is formatted. Any ideas?? Alnisa |

Initially most of their surveys were fairly simplistic, but eventually, we got to a survey that is pretty complex. phpESP handles developing the survey well, but not formatting the questions as need. For example: A single question on the survey may actually be five questions in phpESP. Take a basic Yes/No question that then requires follow-up on both the yes and no, etc. So to handle this, I built the survey in phpESP, captured the page code, then built stand alone pages for each section of the survey. That way, I could reconstitute tables, adjust labels, etc., etc. to suit the paper version of the survey. (see http://nahic.ucsf.edu/index.php/surveys/2005_Network_page1/ ) It's not password protected yet. My problem is, though each section can be set-up to submit data properly. Because the page/section data isn't handled via url, I can't get the next page to load my formatted pages vs the internally phpESP pages. I had originally made the assumption that the final survey pages would be handled in the manner similar to the test pages. So I was expecting to be able to use redirects to convert a url like: http://nahic.ucsf.edu/index.php/surveys?p=3D2 into http://nahic.ucsf.edu/index.php/surveys/2005_Network_page2/ My current solution was to change the "Thank You" text so that users can manually select the next section. But I'd love to automate this. I was thinking one option might be to send data strings to the url, so that when internally in the system the page advances, that even though it would be useless to phpESP, the url would reflect the change. So have the url write: http://nahic.ucsf.edu/index.php/surveys?p=3D2 so that redirects could be written from that. I'm wondering if any gurus or otherwise enterprising individuals have any ideas. Will this work? Is there a better easier way? Is there a way to tell phpESP NOT to auto-generate the survey but use specified pages that I'm completely overlooking. I can't imagine that I'm the first support person to get roped into making a survey look just like the paper version, when the paper version is a convoluted maze of overlapping questions. Alnisa |

Hi, How can I enable "previous page" submit button for a public survey that I have created. I understood from the code that auth_option['navigate'] must be enabled. It was grabbing that from "access" table in the database. "access" table was empty because all my surveys are public. Is there any way users can navigate public survey? I tried this to get around the problem: $GLOBALS['auth_options'] = array(); $GLOBALS['auth_options'] = array('navigate' => 'Y'); but I am losing user input that was already submitted in previous pages. Can you please help me solve this problem. I need to solve this and I tried everything that I could possible do. Thanks, Prakash __________________________________ Yahoo! Hello, We have phpESP 1.7.2 installed and in use for a few months now. A survey developer has identified a problem. An attempt to add a respondent to their group from the 'Manage Respondent Accounts' page meets the response '[ This account does not have permission to access this group. ]' This feedback is obtained when selecting the link 'Add a New Respondent'. When the same information is stored in a file and the link 'Bulk Upload Respondents' is selected the respondent is added. The developer's account is fully privileged with the following attributes: Disabled No Design Surveys Yes Change Survey Status Yes Export Survey Data Yes Group Editor Yes Administer Designers Yes Administer Respondents Yes The fact that a respondent can be added using Bulk Upload implies it is not a permissions issue. Can anyone provide insight on how to correct this? .../neil patterson |

Hi All, I've been testing images in the question text field: Image test: before <img alt="" height="100" src="http://example.com/foo.png" width="400"> after Adjustments for height and weight allow the image to be sized appropriately. Wrapping images in div tags works too. Is anyone else using images in the question text? Any problems noted? Best Regards, Jim B. PS - URL not a real image... use your own image for testing. |

So I just created my first survey and pasted the code that PHPESP told me to put in: <?php $sid=3; include("/home/ethreene/public_html/continentalmemories/surveys//public/handler.php");?> So I put in that code where I wanted it and now I am getting the following error: *Warning*: session_start(): Cannot send session cache limiter - headers already sent (output started at /home/ethreene/public_html/continentalmemories/surveys/index.php:15) in */home/ethreene/public_html/continentalmemories/surveys/public/handler-prefix.php* on line *54 *On line 15 of index.php is the code that I inserted (on line 2 of this email) and on line 54 of handler-prefix.php is session_start(). Can anyone help me on fixing this? I'm not very good with php, so this might be something easy. http://www.continentalmemories.com/surveys/index.php Thanks! Cory |
