engine or do you start the built-in servlet engine via
java -jar JavaBridge.jar SERVLET_LOCAL:8080 ?

Sounds like a java problem. Which java version do you
use on which operating system?

You could set the log level to 6 and check the log
file. But unless you call 

  java("java.lang.System")->exit(0); [1]

the Java VM should not simply terminate.

[1] This behaviour can be switched off via a java
policy file, of course.
