I have some questions regarding PDO. Would it be possible to use PDO with the
Java Bridge? For example:
$pdo = new PDO("jdbc:mysql://localhost/test", "user",
"pass");

Do you want to use PDO or do you want to use a JDBC connection pool? Example above is not standard and doesn't work with PHP. See here: http://php.net/manual/en/book.pdo.php
