pGina 2.1.1 has finally been released. This is a small release with no new features. The main point of this release is to resolve a very common bug in the ConfigApp utility. The ConfigApp will no longer give you an error "A referral was return from the server" whenever UAC is enabled. Everyone,
I am absolutely thrilled to be able to bring you the long awaited pGina
2.1.0. This version is by far the best version of pGina 2.x ever released
and also has the most changes. Just to touch on some of the highlights:
* Added option to require plugin authentication
* Added silent install support
* Added encryption support using pGinaKey.dll
* Added multiple language support to installer
* Added log rotation support
* Added automatic ACL settings during install
* Added automatic drive mapping support
* Added automatic script/application execution support
* Fixed lingering account bug
* Replaced pGinaSrv.exe with pGinaSrvCS.exe (now written in C#)
* Now attempts 3 times to remove user account
* Keeps persistent list in registry of all active sessions
* Keeps list in registry of users created by pGina
And this is just some of the changes! Aside from the changes above, the
configure application has received a nice overhaul and a lot of code has
been cleaned up on the back end. For a complete list of changes, take a look
at the link below:
http://www.pgina.org/index.php/PGina_2.x_Changelog#v2.1.0
Please swing by and pick up your own copy here:

Hello All, I realize it has been a little while since I've posted anything on here, but I am here with great news (for some people). Due to popular demand, there is now a 64 bit version of LDAPauth Plus 1.5.3 available to download online. You can download from the link below: http://pgina.org/index.php/Plugins:LDAP_Auth Please note: this plugin was a quick port from 32 bit to 64 bit, so if you happen to run into any issues.. please let us know. Also, it would be greatly appreciated that if you do find any bugs and manage to hunt them down in the code, send us your patch so we can share it with the community. Enjoy! -- Steve Cross Lead pGina Developer http://www.pgina.org st...@pg... |

To our faithful RADIUS users, I was finally able to get around and build a 64 bit version of the RADIUSplugin-0.3. Also, this 64 bit version contains a GUI configuration utility that was not previously in the plugin. I strongly encourage anyone who is currently using RADIUSplugin-0.2.1 x64 to upgrade to this version. You can find links to download the new build at the page below: http://www.pGina.org/index.php/Plugins:RADIUS Enjoy! PS. pGina-2.0 Build 110 is in the works so stay posted. There are going to be a LOT of exciting changes in this version so be sure to keep checking your inbox! -- Steve Cross Lead pGina Developer http://www.pgina.org st...@pg... |

Hello folks,
I am coming to you guys again because another build of pGina-2.0 has
been released, Build 109. I am proud to announce this one because
there have been quite a few changes in it that I think are for the
better. One fairly big change in this one is the support for macros in
the MOTD. The configuration application is another part of pGina-2.0
that has seen quite a few changes. Now you can click below the MOTD
field and get a list of possible macros, and you can do the same for
the log level. Click on the log level to pull up a list of what the
different levels mean and what to expect in your log when using that
setting. See below for a complete list of changes for Build 109.
* Fixed pGinaLog to prevent blocking of log file so pGinaSrv can
access the log
* Fixed bug that attempted to create session timer if
sessionTimeout was null
* Improved logging functions to be more verbose and provide more
useful information
* Enforced logging levels globally (see Log Levels.txt)
* Fixed log line in pGinaAcctMgr::ScheduleLogoff (said minutes
instead of seconds when logging)
* Added pGinaFunctions class to pGina-Lib
* Added Macro support to MOTD, see Macros.txt
* Added MacroList window to ConfigApp
* Added SpinOption to ConfigApp options file
* Added Log Levels list to ConfigApp
* Added option to ConfigApp to disable shutdown without logon
* ConfigApp now pulls the "About" screen from docs\About.txt
* ConfigApp shows the "About" page first in the list and is now
highlighted when the app starts
I strongly encourage everyone to swing by and get a new copy of
pGina-2.0 from the link below:
http://www.pgina.org/index.php/PGina_2.x_Downloads
And as always, if anyone encounters any issues with this release,
please let us know! You can find the bug trackers and links to the
forums and IRC channel on http://www.pgina.org.
Enjoy!

Good morning/afternoon/night everyone, I just wanted to let everyone know that the pGina 1.x documentation is now available online and can be viewed on the pGina wiki. If you want to check out this documentation, click the link below. http://www.pgina.org/index.php/PGina_1.x_Documentation If you happy to notice any errors in this documentation or feel something has been left out, please shoot me an email and I will get this corrected. As for pGina 2.x Documentation, it is in the works right now. Since pGina 2.x is completely different than pGina 1.x, the documentation has to be written by hand, and I am working on doing that now. I will keep everyone posted on the progress of the 2.x documentation. Thanks! -- Steve Cross Lead pGina Developer http://www.pgina.org st...@pg... |

6.0 on Solaris 9 system. After installing and
configuring, I run the Tester tool but I alwayse got
plugin reported failure
And I couldn't find any debug output dumped out,
though the debugOutput is set to 1. How do I enable
the debugging to have errors dumped out. Does my above
configuration look good?
Thanks,

Email and SSH Plugins Added, PAM Module Updated
<http://pgina.xpasystems.com/?p=3D27>
November 18th, 2005
Wow, big updates today! Ahmed Obied has been hard at work and has
generously provided two new plugins! You can now authenticate users
against an SSH <http://pgina.xpasystems.com/?page_id=3D26> server, or
against a POP3/IMAP <http://pgina.xpasystems.com/?page_id=3D14> server
with or without SSL. The latter of these is an improvement over the
older POP3 plugin (which is still available as well), while the former
provides yet another way to seamlessly integrate Windows =99 machines int=
o
a non-windows network, especially if you already have shell accounts
available via SSH. To round off our updates today, Cal Heldenbrand has
updated his PAM <http://pgina.xpasystems.com/?page_id=3D8> module (for
authenticating *nix clients against the pGina PAM server) to better
compile/operate with newer OpenSSL revisions. Thanks Cal and Ahmed!

pGina 1.8.2 has hit the server and is ready for use. It includes the
following:
1.8.2 Changes:
* Fixed an issue with auto-logoff and required Ctrl+Alt+Del in user
session not displaying countdown
* Added a %mac% macro to the MOTD, allowing for the display of the
machines MAC address (similar to %ip%)
* Fixed an issue that prevented the %machine% macro from working if
it was the first word in the MOTD
* Added "Quick Login" option, when enabled, a button allows fast
access to a local account with a single click
* Added "Require Domain" option, when enabled, a plugin AND domain
auth must both succeed for a user to be allowed access
See http://pgina.xpasystems.com for more info!
Thanks,
Nate Yocom

Thats right, the latest stable release 1.8.1 is now available from the files <http://pgina.xpasystems.com/files/> page! Notes for this release include exciting features, important bug fixes, and a couple of security enhancements on top of the recently released 1.8.0: 1.8.1 Release Notes: * Don't cancel unlock until 3 attempts have been made, then pause for 5 seconds, then require a new SAS * Fixed a bug with the unlock cancel button not returning user to the SAS screen * Added an autologin option to automatically attempt login as a given user, created and developed by Dustin Spicuzza * Added an option to encrypt all REG_SZ settings for data protection * Eric Parsons added code to (re)set permissions/SID on the users registry key at login and logout to enable better roaming profile support * Added support for "User must reset password at next login" on local accounts * Fixed a bug with TS/RDP and passthru mode * Idle logout feature - when the screensaver activates, and a user does not respond to the shown dialog within a grace period, they are logged out * Fixed a BSOD when changing local account passwords * Don't cancel login until 3 attempts have been made, then pause for 5 seconds, then require a new SAS (reduces effectiveness of potential DDOS) * Added hidden DWORD registry key, allowAdminLocks, when set to 1 administrators can lock the machine regardless of the "Allow Locking" setting * Fixed a bug that caused garbage to sometimes be displayed after the %ip% macro in the message of the day field. Our thanks again to the folks at Server Heroes (http://www.serverheroes.com/) <http://www.serverheroes.com/> for their continued hosting and support! |

only exist today because people were kind enough to contract their
creation and support pGina. If you have need of a special or customized
plugin, email me <mailto:na...@xp...> for a quote.
Added today are:
* LDAPGroup <plugins/ldapgroup.php> - A plugin for managing access
to a machine based on membership in LDAP group objects.
* MySQL Logger <plugins/mysqllog.php> - A plugin which logs logon
and logoff events (including machine name, ip and username) to a
MySQL database
* Symbol Mod <plugins/symbol.php> - A plugin for replacing
characters in a username, such as changing @ to _ in order to
allow for RADIUS authentication with domains.
We are thrilled to be able to provide these to you, and we thank each of
the parties who payed for their support!

The FTP Profile Plugin Forum (http://www.xpasystems.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=13) has been started as a result of the mass interest in this plugin, how it works, and how to use it. The creators of this plugin are on hand to help answer questions, provide updates, and generally be the great people they are. There is news of an upcoming usage document, as well as a new version of the plugin with added Unicode support and improved compression! Just a heads up to everyone (Thanks to David A. for sending this along, and to St...@lo... for documenting this). I will look at having the shutdown/restart button disabled automagically when in a TS/RDP session, but for now the workaround is to turn off (disable) the extra button on the login screen if you use the TS/RDP. Thanks, Nate Yocom ============================================================= Subject: Windows DoS in certain pGina configurations Date: Fri, 22 Oct 2004 13:20:42 -0400 From: Steven <st...@lo...> To: bu...@se... Date: October 22, 2004 Product/Service: pGina 1.7.6 and probably older version Issue: Windows DoS in certain pGina configurations URL: http://pgina.xpasystems.com/ Advisory URL: http://www.lovebug.org/pgina_dos.txt Service Overview: pGina is a program that will work in place of Microsoft's GINA (msgina.dll). It's a great tool that works in conjunction with various plugins to allow different methods of user authentication. For example, instead of just using standard local user authentication or domains AD, it can be compared agains a POP3 server, MySQL database, LDAP, Slashdot user accounts, and many more. It is open source and readily available for free for anyone to use and implement. Issue: A small problem can exist when the administrator does not disable the "Restart" or "Shutdown" option from the login screen. The problem exists when the machine is running Remote Desktop. If an attacker connects to the a target machine, the attacker can simply reboot or shutdown the machine at the click of a button. The choices to restart or shutdown are available to a user when connecting via Remote Desktop and an attacker can use this as a way to deny service. Solutions: The administrator simply needs to configure the machine to have the shutdown and restart options disabled. This is very easily done and accessible through the pGina configuration executable. Vendor Response: There is no need to get a response from the vendor as this issue can be taken care of through proper administration. People just need to be awar that this problem can and does exist. --------------------------- Questions/Comments/Other? Drop me a line. Go Hokies! :D -Steven st...@lo... |

In the hopes of providing more community support, I have started a trial run of a new IRC channel, if you have questions, want to help others out, or just wanna hang out, join #pgina via irc.freenode.net today. Hope to see you there! I am also in the process of getting 1.7.8 ready for release. I am waiting on a few small things after which you will all be able to upgrade to the latest! Many new fixes in this version, but few features: - Screensaver/dialog timeout is finally working - Better/easier translation and i18n support (you can now do your own translation by changing a text file in the pGina dir) - Increased overall stability - Honor existing autologin information when first installed - and more! Massive updates for you tonight! First off, pGina 1.7.7.4 (Biff Sr) BETA is available here <http://pgina.xpasystems.com/downloads/pGina177.4-BiffSrBeta.zip>. Note that this installer requires you have 1.7.6 or a previous Beta installed first. This *should* fix a bunch of the screensaver issues people are having (note you may have to set your login screensaver timeout to less than 2 minutes), and adds roaming profile support and a login script option. Eric explains the new login script option thusly (explanation of the new roaming profile options are included on the page for his FTP plugin <http://pgina.xpasystems.com/plugins/pgftp.php>): "The logon script text box should be self-explanatory--it can specify any executable or batch file to run, along with parameters, when the user logs in. The script will execute after the profile is loaded (i.e. in the code it is called in WlxActivateUserShell()). The path can be local, UNC or a mapped drive (as long as the user has sufficient rights to execute the file). The command line can include any environment varibles normally available to the user, as well as the special pGina variables %USERNAME%, %MACHINE%, and %PASSWORD%. The latter offers a little more flexibility in situations where Windows authentication isn't used on the network. " Secondly, thanks to the hard work of Eric Parsons of U. Calgary, not only did he get the roaming profile and login script support added to pGina, but he created a plugin which stores users profiles on an FTP server in a nice small Zip file! Thats right, use the Chaining Plugin <http://pgina.xpasystems.com/plugins/chain.php> to chain another plugin <http://pgina.xpasystems.com/plugins/> with the FTP <http://pgina.xpasystems.com/plugins/pgftp.php> plugin he created and you can authenticate against a single source AND store your profiles on a central server. All the handiness of a domain/ad without the cost or proprietary requirements! Our thanks to Eric and the U. Calgary for their continued work and support. You too can support enhancements and fixes like these by donating time or money, for the former, email me <mailto:nat...@xp...> and for the latter, click that PayPal link you see at the top right of the pGina page or the bottom of this email- No PayPal account required to donate! Last and certainly not least is Jason Kitka's addition of a Webauth <http://pgina.xpasystems.com/plugins/webauth.php> plugin to our repetoire. Using his .NET based plugin you can authenticate against any standard URI. Initially designed and used for Bluesocket authentication, this is an extremely useful plugin! Thanks Jason! Okay, I lied.. that wasn't the last item. I am also pleased to announce that thanks to your donations and several people contracting my time for pGina coding, I have been able to save enough money to purchase an MSDN Professional Subscription for a year for myself. This gives me access to more Windows platforms, example code, documentation and support, allowing me to continue to give YOU the user a product that is not only free, but invaluable! Remember, YOUR support makes this possible, whether it be $5, $100 or an hourly contract for programming, Remember - YOU make the difference. Thanks! Nathan Yocom pGina Code Monkey, nat...@xp... |

Note that if you downloaded or installed pGina 1.7.6 before today (Monday June 7th 2004 EST) you should redownload/reinstall. The pGina.dll included prior to today had a bug which caused a BSOD in some situations. This has been fixed and the installer reuploaded. -- and remember, pGina is free, we do it because we love it, but it costs us money and time. Consider the money you save in domain costs, time, management, and what you would pay for a similar commercial product (*cough* Nov *cough* ell *cough*) - then please consider donating even just a few dollars to the effort (use the PayPal link in the top right of the homepage: http://pgina.xpasystems.com). If you would like a better idea as to the cost of maintaining the project, or what we use donations for - please dont hestitate to contact me: nat...@xp... Also - we are looking to either raise the $ or find someone willing to donate an MSDN subscription (http://msdn.microsoft.com/subscriptions/buy/choose/) preferrably at the Professional Level. We appreciate any help or support you, the community, can provide. Thank you, and as always, please let me know if I can be of any service! Nate Yocom |

I'm happy to announce the release of pGina 1.7.6 which is now available for download from the Downloads section of the web site (http://pgina.xpasystems.com/files/). This release contains both bug fixes as well as some added functionality - such as the ability for an Administrator to unlock a locked workstation without logging the user out. Initial TS/RDP support has been added as well but we cannot test TS/RDP ourselves, so bug reports or donations of the necessary hardware/software are quite welcome! This release only contains the English version of the program, international versions will come as translations are completed. If you would like to help with translating please contact Nathan Yocom at nat...@xp.... - Michael -- Michael Wright XPA Systems, http://www.xpasystems.com mik...@xp... |
