Hi LinuxTuxie after correcting the script, now the output is as expected: Found user admin with pwd admin in database. CGI values: admin | 1 Tomorrow I'll be online almost all day, I'll stay in #personalbackup. Note that my time is UTC+1. Hi Kim I've checked twice every conf file and compared with the ones on the working server (the first one on which I installed Personalbackup): no differences. The browser which I connect from is always the same and on a third PC. At this point I'm going to think that there could be something wrong in my fresh system's perl package. I've already reinstalled from scratch CGI and CGI::Session but nothing changes. If it could be of any help, I attach the complete versions' list of my perl packages. Kind list's members in order to restest the whole install process before starting with production phase, this morning I've made a fresh Fedora 2 install on a test machine and fresh downloaded Personalbackup from CVS. Installation has gone fine, like in previous tests, but when I try to log in personalbackup's web interface as admin, the browser reloads the login.cgi page with no-erros or warns. If I submit wrong user/password the "Wrong password or username, please try again" message is correctly displayed, but with correct one the log-in is reloaded forever. I've tryed to figure-out the problem with no success. Hope you can help me. Logs in attachment: httpd.conf httpd's access_log personalbackup.conf postgresql's log httpd's error_log Thank you for your kind support. Hi, It is indeed not so nice that you see errors, but it is normal behaviour. We are making sure that nothing exists anymore in the database, we accomplish this by deleting all the views, tables and sequences (those are the errors you see). But if this is the first time you create the database...they will ofcourse not exist and postgres will throw these errors. So it is just to make sure that everything is "clean" before we create any object in the database. So here you can disregard the errors, they are normal. I have seen some files which failed to backup which contained characters=20 like "=EA =E9 =E8" However I did not hear any comments on this issue from the community (yet= :) If I remember correctly the files could be transfered with the smbclient=20 samba utility, but not with the Filesys::SmbClient module Regards, LinuxTuxie |

Kind LinuxTuxie and list's Members >> Where should I look for SmbClient module's >> output errors? > You could increase the debug level by setting the debug flag to '1' in the > file register.cgi on lines 481 and 492. While I was going to change the DEBUG flag, I've seen the following code line in register.cgi: open (NMBLOOKUP, "$nmblookup -U $winsserver -R $machine |") || PBUtils->loginfo ("die", "$nmblookup -U $winsserver -R $machine failed."); I'm not a Perl programmer, but I guessed this is an external program call, like in Bash scripts ;-) So I ran 'nmblookup -U localhost -R client' at shell prompt and resulted in name resolve error. Here is my environment: SERVER Linux Fedora Core 2 Personalbackup1.01 (CVS downloaded) Samba with WINS support enabled CLIENT: WinXP Pro stand alone (no domain logon) sharing a folder with "everybody full-control" world readable Here my idea: the WinXP machine doesn't register itself to the WINS of Samba, so the command 'nmblookup -U localhost' returns error. But if I run 'nmblookup client' then the name is resolved correctly. Nmblookup, when -U option is given, doesn't try to resolve the name with a broadcast 255, but only thru the WINS server. I tried to set the variable $winsserver to empty, but the 'nmblookup -U -R client' returns error, because it tries the 0.0.0.0 WINS server, which actually doesn't exist. If I modify the code with: open (NMBLOOKUP, "$nmblookup $machine |") || PBUtils->loginfo ("die", "$nmblookup -U $winsserver -R $machine failed."); the name is correctly resolved and I can add the share to the backup list. Of course the backup deamon still doesn't find the client; it should be necessary to modify daemon script too. In an environment where a WINS server doesn't exist, Personalbackup would anyway try to use it, even if the $winsserver variable is empty. Moreover, if a WINS server exists, but a machine isn't registered on it, its name will result unreachable by Personalbackup. It should be useful to try 'nmblookup nametoberesolved' and then, if it fails, try to ask WINS server. Regards Raf P.S. Is it possible to add to the WISHLIST the option to choose the backup start time on a per-share basis? Thank you. |

Kind list members As suggested by LinuxTuxie the "no folder" bug in Java applet is present as long as there isn't any subfolder in share. If a share contains files only, then the bug still appears. Yet another problem here: The environment: SERVER Fedora Core 2.0 perl-5.8.3 samba-3.0.10-1 with WINS support enabled Filesys::SmbClient 3.0 postgresql-7.4.2-1 httpd-2.0.49-4 Personalbackup1.01 (CVS downloaded) CLIENT: WinXP Pro stand alone (no domain logon) Explorer 6.0 jre-1.5.0.06 OPERATION Server shares a folder thru Samba with "guest ok = yes", world readable. Client shares a folder with "Everyone full control". Client share is accessible and browseable from Server thru Samba's Smbclient. Adding the Server's share in personalbackup with share type:Win98, goes with no problems. Adding the Client's share in personalbackup with share type:WinXP results in "unable to resolve address". Nmblookup on Server reports correct Client's address with no problem. Smbclient -L shows Client's shares with no problem. Where should I look for SmbClient module's output errors? Thank you Raf |

Kind LinuxTuxie and list Members I'm glad to had helped improving your nice piece of software :) Actually the share I made wasn't empty, there were three files in it. I'll try creating a folder on next test. I've found another trivial bug. The perl installer fails to set the __INSTALLDIR__ variable in the Redhat init script. I had to change it manually. Marshal McInnis wrote: Ok the problem here is located in the fact that it cannot fin the tree.cgi perl script: http://10.10.0.71/tree.cgi?dbmfile=/tmp/95bcbe5f380bd5bd4c9b2d4319e6b735.dbm&share_name=music&folder= Are you sure that the permissions on tree.cgi are set correctly (execute permissions) ? And that ExecCGI is enabled in your apache config for the folder containging the script ? You can easily test if the script is working by pasting the above url in your browser. The scipt will just output some text... if this should fail, you can check your apache loggings to find out what is causing the problem. PersonalBackup should work on all linux flavours which support perl and samba. A further step would be to create automatically debian, redhat and ofcourse suse packages ... Any contributions are welcome ofcourse :) Regards, Kim |

If you have reloaded the webpage, you should open the "java console". (In windows you should click with your rightmousebutton on the java icon located in the taskbar and select the "show console" item) You can then copy the debugging information from the java console and paste it to the mailinglist, this may give us some information.
