    Hi all,

I freshly installed peppermint on HP15-R250TU installation went pretty smooth.., but when i want to "Restart/Shutdown" it's not happening. After i hit the "Restart/Shutdown" peppermint logo popup and then it goes blank and stays like that.

I've to forcefully hit the power button on the laptop to Shutdown.

Not sure exactly if it's an issue with BIOS/Hardware issues or within OS
if any settings need to be tweaked in Peppermint? or else BIOS

    can someone help me out?

    Regards,
    Madhu

    Hi there,

That is new, err...right. If I remember correctly, this issue occurred with Linuxmint circa 2015and they did publish a remedy. I'll have to research this.

In the mean time can you boot into your install then open an terminal and type this command systemctl reboot or perform Ctrl+Alt+Delete to reboot your machine.?

It could be as simple as the iso may have been corrupted during the download. Suggest you download a new iso, and burn to a clean and freshly formatted USB or DVD. Then do the same to your laptop, then re-install with the method you are happy with.

I could be wrong, but I have an HP Pavilion that sounds like it might have specs similar to yours. It has 4GB or Ram with a 500GB HDD hard drive.

When I bought it 14 years ago it would do this sometimes. It had Windows 7 on it. Later, after upgrading to Windows 10, it would still do it. Then I upgraded to Linux.

I've had Linuxmint Cinnamon, Linuxmint XFCE, Q4OS KDE Plasma, MX-21 fluxbox, and now Peppermint 11 installed on it. And it stills does this...

Not every time... but fairly often.

I've ruled out the operating system as being the culprit.

Madhusudhan , There is likely something that hasn't stopped yet or a service that needs to finish and is "blocking" the shutdown process.
When the Peppermint logo comes up , press the Esc key to remove the mask over the shutdown process.
This will tell you what service or task hasn't completed.
It will tell you the process it is waiting on, and how long it has waited.
Once you know what it is waiting on , you are better informed and can better report what is causing your shutdown to "hang".

    Thanks
