Plus are you aware Peppermint 10 has reached EOL (End of Life). Plus we have migrated to the Debian and Devuan base, with a Xfce desktop, rather than Ubuntu with a hybrid LXDE environment.

check if pmount, gvfs, gvfs-fuse, gvfs-backends are installed. you may also have to go into the file manager settings and in one of the tabs you have to configure behaviour and set it to automount and browse on insert usb.

I can mount of unmount drives using the DRIVES app. That is a relief. Yet, this is not a solution. The system should recognize a usb drive. I have used many flash and mechanical drives in the past with no problem. Something needs to be fixed within the OS.
Thank you in advance for any assistance.

sorry for the late reply but try this if you have the above packages i recommended installed.
in nemo go to edit > preferences > behaviour tab > and under media handling enable the first 3 options
in thunar go to edit > preferences > advanced tab > enable volume management then configure under it.
then in the next window that pops up tick the first 3 of 5 boxes under removable storage.
plug in a random usb and see does it work then.

gvfs-backends is just one of the dependencies of gvfs, its not in the settings anywhere. once you have them installed try what i recommended in my last post.

Does the flash drive show up in lsusb? Open a terminal and type in lsusb and hit enter.
alynur,
No. It doesn't.

rauzer,
I am unfamiliar with gvfs-backends. I cannot find any relevant settings in file manager.
This is the correct area in the forum to ask about the USB problem? Thanks in advance.
Your USB device may be defective. Check this site for more information.
