I noticed my pad wasn't working. I went into mouse and touchpad and turned off the mouse. Naturally the mouse stopped working, but the touchpad wasn't either.

I used tab and the arrow keys to navigate the panel and turn the mouse back on. I did, but the mouse still didn't work. So I'm stuck with tab and arrow keys. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Why does this post say waiting moderation for 17 hours? If you're not going to approve it so I can ask for help, is there a better forum to post to? Please let me know.

With regards to the post 17 hours ago... the mouse is working. The trackpad/clickpad thing isn't working.

It is fully functioning on my laptop. Plugged in an USB mouse and then turned off the touchpad.

Note the difference between both pictures, the touchpad has been turned off and semi greys out the page, whereas the USB mouse toggle switch is lit up in red.

If it still not working, this article shows you how to fix it: https://www.maketecheasier.com/fix-touchpad-not-working-linux/

The article says, "If your output doesn’t look anything like the above, either you’re dealing with a kernel bug or the hardware simply isn’t recognized."

      I put in the terminal:
      cat /proc/bus/input/devices | grep -i touchpad -- This didn't return anything.

Mine isn't showing the touchpad, just the mouse. I put the same OS on another laptop I have, which is an HP. It worked fine. The HP is seven years older than the Acer I'm trying to fix now.

I ran across a thread on stack exchange. About the same year (2015) and same computer Acer Aspire: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/244894/touchpad-does-not-work-on-acer-aspire

I don't know if any of the ideas listed there would work for me. What do you think?

Steve MacClellan, I would guess this is concerning a laptop computer ?
I say "guess" because you've provided no information about the computer or the track/touch pad or mouse in use with it.

    Thanks,

You're right. I'll see if I can find this info. I don't know where to find it, but I will.

I don't see any info about the mouse in this info, but the mouse is working so perhaps you don't need it.

    This is solved.

See bug report here: (Also affects Aspire ES1 - 521. like mine)
    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1593943

In the 8th comment, it says:

Christopher. I removed myself from the "affects me" list. Was not a bug. In the case of my Acer Aspire the issue was caused by incorrect settings in the BIOS for touch pad legacy support.
    Changed in linux (Ubuntu):
    status: Incomplete → Invalid

So the steps I took are:

    1.Reset
2.Press F2 to enter in BIOS
    3.Main
4.Set touchpad as basic (NOT ADVANCED!!!).
5.Press F10 to save changes I hope this sequence to solve your problems

cavy 3rd April 10:30hrs marked OP inquiry as SOLVED This done by click on the post title and adding the word solved.
