I had Peppermint 11 running well using Legacy from the BIOS instead of UEFI. But when the power was off, with a dead battery, it wouldn't boot until I went into the Bios and switched it back to Legacy. So I re-installed the OS using UEFI. It seems to work fine, but I can't use the fingerpad to navigate or click on anything... only the mouse.

I checked the mouse-keyboard settings -- everything is okay there. I checked the Bios. There is a setting for Touchpad. It's set for advanced. I switched to basic and rebooted, but it didn't make any difference.

    How can I fix this?

Please review my comment here: https://sourceforge.net/p/peppermintos/pepos/inst/thread/1f21196d09/?limit=25#0804 your issues seem to be related to the BIOS and CMOS button battery. When you state with a dead battery you suspect your main laptop is dead.?
