    Hello All.
after years with peppermint 9 and 10 i did some successful installations of PeppermintOS.
but one thing i have problems with is that i can't find the system wide option for language.

i install PeppermintOS on older laptops and computers and give them to family's that can't afford the expensive windows versions.
install LibreOffice, Thunderbird mail, firefox and some other useful programs so they, their kids etc. have something to do their thing like work, school etc.

so is there a terminal command that makes the system wide change to, in this case Dutch?
the same case, is there a terminal command that removes all not western fonts?
( i once had so many asian etc. fonts that i don't use but showed up in LibreOffice

maybe someone has some useful suggestions?

ehh, i check t but the system gave me that their is no 'locales'

on my peppermint10 i have tried it and the Locales screen came up, so that worked and was set to

    nl_NL.UTF-8 UTF-8

      thank you for the link.
i installed locals and could set it to nl_NL.UTF-8 UTF-8

but i still have a lot of non western fonts that show up in LibreOffice and i would want to remove those.
i hoped that would happen when the locals was set.
      any ideas?

There are a couple of ways I can see these extra fonts might have shown up in you installs.

Earlier releases for PeppermintOS had the Apt configuration "APT::InstallRecommends" set to "1" or "true" .
This was treating the package maintainers recommendations as though they were dependencies for packages.
The additional language packs for LibreOffice could be listed as a recommendation for something in in LibreOffice or as a recommendation for something that was installed as a recommendation.

Starting with the most recent release of PeppermintOS this default behavior has been changed. If you are interested, this behavior can be changed for installs done from releases prior to the August release.

Another way all of the additional language packs could have been installed was during the system installation from the live session.
When LibreOffice was selected without going through the drop downs to select specific component or suites. This seems to happen when the first check box is "ticked" without exploring the selection to see if there are any unwanted parts or only some of what's there is really wanted.
    See the screenshots :

If this was how they managed to all get installed you might have to remove all of the LibreOffice language packs , Followed by re-adding only the ones of your choosing.

      Ahh, this explains a lot.
i did use a very early release of peppermintOS and installed from after booting the live system.
haven't seen the choices of the screenshots you posted.
i will reinstall with a new version of peppermintOS i downloaded sept. 16 and try again.
      thank you!

it happened the way you described it.
the installation of the newest distro download was different en now i don't have all the fonts that i will never use.
some things about the installation and after that:
1 the 3 peppermint extra's , backgrounds, icons etc. when downloading them there is not a good message that downloading and installation is done.
restarted some of them and there was no message that all was installed already.
2 the first update was a large one so it seamt because it took a great deal of time. at some moment you just see a turning red thing, and because i am not used that updating takes that long i thought the update process was hanging..
closing the window and starting again gave me that some files were locked and process was still going on.

what i missed was some kind of message how far the update was like in %.

but than again, installation was smooth and another piece of electronics is saved and can be used again.
