Have an older pc and it constantly shuts down when trying to load live cd/usb. Pc isnt overheating at all. Tried all different versions of linux and nothing. Replaced hdd and memory. Also used different usb outlets and various flash drives. Its an athlon x2 processor, 8gb ram. Any ideas would be appreciated.

In my experience with elderly PC's, one of the more strangely common hardware failures is a short somewhere in the power button. Have you disconnected it after starting the PC to rule this out? Have you let it sit in BIOS for a while and waited to see if it randomly shut off? This would be an easy if lengthy way to rule that out

I can sit in bios all day with no issues. I can also sit on the grub menu with no issues. Just seems like as soon as it starts the initial load process of the usb it shuts down. Only reason I'm messing with it is its for a neighbor to use.
