    Hi Dave,

The app yt-dlp is not a default tool nor is it included in the final install of our Pep Mini.

Can you please inform us which iso you used, 32bit or 64bit? Devuan or Debian?

Ethernet or wireless installation, the make and model of your device, its age, and brief specs.

The chose of desktop or non-desktop selected at the software section of the installer.

For example my first Debian Netinstall circa 2012, utilising a (2007) Lenovo N200 NoteBook with an Intel Celeron CPU, 2GB of RAM and period GPU. A 55Mb/s Ethernet connection. Took 24hrs to install and for XYZ reasons, failed at the end of the install.

Details similar to the above example of my elderly laptop now retired to cyber heaven, about your computer will help me and the team to dissect and help with your problem.

I'm currently comparing by looking at my latest Pep-Mini install, a Budgie desktop, where I utilised the Debian guided partitioning, although with extra partitions for /tmp/ , /var and /home.

The tool yt-dlp is definitely not part of the install, nor is it included in the Tasksel list that determines each desktop's build, even for the non-graphical install. Though we are checking the installer's settings to eliminate if it is being included via a dependency for unknown reasons.

Your set up: 32bit install and it's both devuan and debian . Was this obtained by installing both via our Pep-Mini-iso? This narrows our search to 32bit. So far unable to replicate your error message with either 64bit iso.

Please answer following questions with as much detail as possible, that we can narrow the search scope for this error.

    1. How did you install both your current set-up, which install option did you used?
    2. Hardwired or wireless?
    3. Guided or manual install?
    4. Your preferred target desktop?
    5. I do note you've tried Xfce and Gnome, was this with the same USB?
    6. Have you downloaded a fresh iso and created a new USB image and attempt a clean install?

Would I be correct, that you after a light-weight desktop which will suit the modest resources of your ASUS rig: https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/asus-cuv4x-d

Burn an iso to USB from the Live media: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3irLQyCLKQk

The optimum and best install method would be achieved by having the machine connected to the internet via an Ethernet cable. Not wireless.

Choose the guided partition method without any desktop, by leaving all the tick-boxes unchecked at the software selection to produce a non-graphical install. When prompted reboot the machine.

You will be presented with black screen called a tty screen, where it will prompt you for your username then password. Once you have entered the system type sudo xDaily and enter your password when prompted, then allow it do its thing. When you see your username and the name you've given to your machine. You have a fully updated machine.

You are now ready to install the LXDE desktop, follow this guide: https://wiki.debian.org/LXDE to keep its footprint resource friendly, I suggest you go for the sudo apt install lxde option and add what you need afterwards. Yes more involved, but you know what is in there. Essentials only, no bloat.

    Good luck.

    The optimum and final solution.

If you still desire to have a dual booting pepified Devuan and Debian desktops.

Download the Xfce iso for both and burn to your usual DVD method.

Now install both OFFLINE. That means NO internet connection. Our Calamares installer we have designed to achieve this with minimal fuss.

Once you have rebooted into your first install, click on the Internet icon of your panel, bottom right and choose your wifi supplier address and enter your password when prompted.

Now open a terminal and type sudo xDaily and enter password when prompted and allow it to do its thing. When your username and machine name appears. Log out and install either the Devuan or Debian system, depending which you have installed first.

Finally. Neither system will recognise each other via the command sudo update-grub this is an upstream security solution from Debian and Devuan.

You will have to edit this text body (in both systems) below or remove the hash on the second line beginning with GRUB at the bottom of the etc/default/grub file. This can be achieved by right clicking in the Thunar file manager and choosing the entry Open as root here. Be careful, you now have the power to completely muller your system.

    # Uncomment this to run os-prober so search for and add other OS installations to the grub boot menu
    GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER=false

Once you have successfully completed the edit, run this terminal command sudo update-grub in your lead install to recognise your second install. Then repeat from the second install to have both boot entries appear in the boot splash screen.

thanks, just curious will this be fixed on a updated mini iso's i really like the idea of choosing which desktop to choose from, also i don't think this is a upstream issue but gotta download the debian 12 install from there website.

We can not find any logical reason for the YT-DLP error, nor replicate what you have described, I have personally made several installs, using a new iso for each occasion.

The maintainer of the Mini, has carried out extensive checks, and gone through their install files with a tooth-comb, before multiple tests to 32 and 64bit machinery. Returning clean installs, with no error messages .

I've included the Tasksel file that determines what goes into the DI. (debian installer). Or our Mini iso.

grab the latest one from here and see if it installs, i remember having to do this a while back. if you dont fancy using the terminal install youtubedl-gui and itll pull in all the needed dependencies

I found something interesting on a new install:
/etc/default/grub.ucf-dist has the os prober on line 17
However - /etc/default/grub has no mention of the os prober

So my successful work around was this:

    Copy:
    GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER=false
    from /etc/default/grub.ucf-dist
    into
    /etc/default/grub

    then run update-grub

    Viola - worked for me
