I am an Old Timer (80+ years old - but still going strong) who has been using Xenial 7.5 since I don't recall when. Xenial connected me to the Internet right out of the box - which was great. For some time now, frequent visits to the Internet are telling me that my browser (Firefox 52.9 ESR) is no longer acceptable. Consequently, I am trying out a new OS which can use an more recent version of Firefox. I only use my Linux distros on thumb drives; I've never actually installed a Linux distro on my HDD.
Having downloaded PPMNTOS, I used UNetbootin to create a bootable thumb drive for the new Linux iso.
All that went quite well. But then I was a bit disappointed that PPMNTOS was not created to connect to the Internet automatically using my home router. Attempting to use the Advanced Network Configuration just had me going around in circles.
It was time to seek assistance from the experts, so here I am seeking, first of all, to get connected to the Internet and secondly, to replace Kumo with a more recent version of Firefox that I am now using.
I look forward to some new experiences with my new distro and welcome the assistance of those members who much better understand the workings of PeppermintOS than I ever hope to attain.

Please view attached screenshot, and note the icon between the battery symbol and the work-space selector. Right click on it to ensure that wifi or hardwire connections are ticked.
Unsure open a terminal and run this command: inxi -n then reply to this post with the printout.
And sure enough, the icon between the battery symbol and the work-space selector showed a small grayed-out square with a white 'x' in its bottom right corner and this message:
Ethernet Network
disconnected
VPN Connections
Neither of these two options are what I am hoping for, i.e. a simple WiFi connection through my pocket router.
Finally, I tried to save the screenshots I was able to take, but darned if I could find them afterwards! Hence, the need to copy the above info by hand into another computer which is my every-day way of using the Internet. I'm hoping that it will be possible to get PeppermintOS to eventually get onto the Internet as well.
As a Peppermint newbie, I am somewhat awed at its abilities, but also somewhat dismayed at the lack of a "Help" manual within Peppermint.
However, I am comforted by the forum members' assistance. Thanks indeed!

Some progress is being made - even with my learn-by-doing method. The youtube video creates a wired Ethernet connection which is not what I hope to get for PeppermintOS.
The attachment shows that I have created the beginnings of a WiFi connection which is how I hope to connect to the Internet using my AIS Pocket WiFi. Actually, I have created the same connection 3-4 times already, but after clicking the SAVE button and shutting down and later re-starting PeppermintOS, there is no recall of my handiwork and the Advanced Network Tab shows me its proposed wired connection via Ethernet.
What I need to get from the forum members is how to fill in the remaining blanks ( Mode, Band, Channel, BSSID, Device, Cloned MAC address, and MTU ) that remain on my attempt to create a WORKING connection to the Internet.
Eagerly looking forward to suggestions from the forum members!

Hi Pierre,
Welcome to Planet Peppermint.
Hardwire or a wifi connection?

@Pierre Andre
You should be able to connect to inet even if you are still on your Bootup USB drive.
Bottom right in taskbar. Small white icon.
Hello, Friends,
In the Terminal, I got the following:
