I haven't been able to try this out in the original yet, but this really seems like a bug. The Avatar doesn't need the Endure Heat spell as long as he keeps jumping. The Avatar can jump into the middle of a shallow piece of lava, and then just keep jumping between shallow lava sections. He only gets hurt should he try to walk on the lava, but landing and jumping in it causes no damage.

Note that the equipped shield makes you immune to fire damage. But even without that it behaves strangely.

Yeah, tested it without the fire shield and I'm getting the same results.
