That may be true, but I wasn't proposing that the only victory condition be to get a particular object to a particular place. That's one possibility, but there are many more: get SEVERAL objects to a particular place; light a candle or light bulb; roast a hot dog; disconnect the power from a bomb before it explodes, etc. And even within the subcategory of "get an object to its destination," there is a LOT more story potential and interest if you allow that to be any object, than if it's always the engineer, time after time. Compare "oh look, on this level we have to rescue the little robot that's trapped between two boxes!" to "oh gee, we have to get the stupid engineer to his notebook, AGAIN." But I think I can see that this is an argument I'm going to lose. And it's only proper -- this is Mike's project, and I'm just the newcomer. I think I'll leave you to it, and whether I go back to making my own game, or just give up on the idea completely, is something I'll have to work out for myself. Best, - Joe |
