I recently did a fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04.01 on a new machine, and went on to install PGL using the Launchpad instructions to add/update the repos, then used synaptic to install pglgui, pglcmd & pgld.
Initially I let it configure 'startup at boot' (actually did a reboot for other reasons). At this point I used the Unity icon to start PGL and got the familiar screen (I've use this app for years on Ubu 12.04 and love it) I didn't spend time configuring at this point.
For reasons I don't recall I removed the 3 progs, again using synaptic and reinstalled this time without 'startup at boot'. I don't recall any problems installing in either case.
I tried configuring the std https port and when I selected 'apply' I got a blank ERROR popup ie; no info on which command had trouble. Same when I tried the 'start' or 'stop' buttons; blank popup.
I restarted program from the desktop icon several times (same results ofcourse) and noticed that there where no additional entries in the pglcmd.log past the original startup at boot (Oct 6). Looking in var/log/pgl the two logs where owned by system, where on my old machine the were owned by me. I changed the ownership and used the desk icon to start the prog. I again tried to configure https port but got same blank error popup.
This time I got an entry in the pglcmd.log but nothing in the pgld.log beyond the original entry.
AND the original System ownership on the logs.
I'm stumped, but then I'm old, tired and easily confused :)
Please help.
I'll try to attach the whole logs to date, but I'm new to this ticket system so good luck to me.
What additional sleuthing can I do for you?
Looks like changing the default superuser setting from usr/bin/pglcmd to usr/bin/gksu did the trick wrt configuration (whitelist) & startup problems. (Trons ticket and Ubuntu forum responses from jre finally sunk in :)
I guess this ticket can be closed
