Hey there. I had muchas problemas originally getting FastCGI and mod_perl to play nice, which was the origin of the redirect to 8080. I just built Apache2 on the server last weekend and will be switching from 1.3.x in the next few weeks as soon as I get all the other sites tested. mod_pcgi2 (I believe Zope can run through mod_pcgi2 in place of FastCGI) is masked (i.e., not on the stable tree) in Gentoo, but that doesn't mean it is actually unstable. Often it just means it isn't as thoroughly tested as other packages. Hopefully it will do the trick.
