PCmanFM 1.2.3. Set Priority to 1 (minor/trivial) for a good reason.
I only discovered this issue by accident, and I think normally it wouldn't happen to anyone.
Needed some overview in my Places panel, and just being a lazy typist, I changed the label of my temporary partition to .. Yes, just a dot.
You can imagine what happened: PcManFM interpreted the dot just like the shell would have interpreted it, and you could literally watch the partition disappear from Places.
Again, no big deal. Whoever makes use of such unusual labels must get his proverbial just deserts, from time to time. :-D

Oops, I should add that the disappearing event isn't triggered unless the partition is manually mounted within PCManFM.
If you really feel in the mood of reproducing it, create yourself a small test partition and e2label it
