Say we have a folder called "/Downloads" which contains lots of subfolders and files, one of which is some way down the list, for example let's call it "/Downloads/Widgets".

If one navigates into "/Downloads/Widgets", does one's file management business, and returns to "/Downloads" (via either Back or Up), one is indeed presented with the contents of "/Downloads", but from the very top of the list.

It would make more sense, at least in my opinion, if one were instead presented with "/Downloads/Widgets" already selected (and of course, already scrolled down).

Would this be possible? What are your thoughts?

Feel free to ask me to clarify what I mean, and of course, to recategorise/rename this post if necessary.

I'm sure it's not relevant, but I'm currently running pcmanfm/libfm 1.2.5 on Arch Linux.

Open Preferences window, select 'Focus previous folder after coming to its parent' option and you will have your desired behavior. Thank you.

You saved me! I did not know this feature is present in the pcmanfm.
I was searching this for long time, but couldn't find .
      Thank your very very much.

Well, I feel like a fool there. My preconceived notion was so strong that it hadn't even occurred to me that it could be implemented without being the default behaviour. Sorry about that, and thanks for the clarification. At least now no-one else should end up making the same oversight.
