Category: None Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None >Priority: 3 Submitted By: Paul W. King (kingpaul) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Gestalt characters Initial Comment: Unearthed Arcana allows for gestalt characters. Could PCGen be updated to allow this mixing of classes? Paul W. King TM SB, OGL/PL Chimp, Data Gibbon, BoD ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Paul W. King (kingpaul) Date: 2005-08-24 19:14 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=277877 Ah. I didn't realize that the code couldn't track separate class levels concurrently. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Devon Jones (soulcatcher) Date: 2005-08-24 17:50 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=107647 the problem is in the data. there is no way the current data is written for me to determine even which things I should compare with one another to give you the best progressions. each gestalt combination is really a new class - the only way I think we are ever going to be able to do gestalt is to have people enter in the class they want. If you use gestalt, you *can* jsut add your charcter's gestalt class in the lst. I don't see another way to do it without significantly changing how the data works. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Paul W. King (kingpaul) Date: 2005-08-24 17:44 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=277877 Can't even do it via a plug-in? I wasn't expecting you to redo the entire code. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Devon Jones (soulcatcher) Date: 2005-08-24 17:00 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=107647 More importantly, becasue of the near infinite possibilities here, it means that gestalt would require us likely to scrap significant portions of pcgen and re-architect the whole thing form the ground up to support it. Sorry, but code wise, gestalt is a pipe dream. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Paul W. King (kingpaul) Date: 2005-08-24 16:00 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=277877 Which is why I had it at 6 instead of higher. My logic was that this is from a WotC source, hence 'official' in many people's eyes. Yes, I know there are xRD stuff that still needs implemented, and they should be higher. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Eddy Anthony (eddyanthony) Date: 2005-08-24 15:36 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=886893 I gotta agree with Tir here. in every discussion in the BoD and outside of it this feature has been evaluated as very dificult to do as well as not in high demand. As long as there are areas in the core materials in need of code development (and there are a few) then this needs to be on the back burner. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Andrew McDougall (tir-gwaith) Date: 2005-08-24 15:26 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=208239 Why is this P6? To me this is a matter of a lot of code and design work for a niche. I hate to mention it, but I'd be more inclined to support SS monster progression POS than Gestalt. because of all the complexities Gestalts would need. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=384722&aid=1268890&group_id=25576 |
