If 'Use Default Monsters' is checked, then unamred damage base is 1d2. Something is wrong with 'Use Default Monsters'. Setting to p8. I doubt it will be fixed for the 5.8 stable, but this needs to be fixed early in the 5.9.x series. Paul W.
