King (kingpaul) Assigned to: Eric Beaudoin (ericbeaudoin) Summary: [MSRD] Restriction tag for equipment Initial Comment: In the MSRD, they have introduced a new, for lack of a better word, tag for equipment called 'Restriction'. This can take 5 fields when active: Licensed Lic (+1) Res (+2) Mil (+3) Ill (+4) Right now, SPROP is where this info is going. I would like to create this new tag so that this information has a proper place. Paul W. We'll revisit this after 5.8. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Eddy Anthony (eddyanthony) Date: 2004-10-12 18:34 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=886893 I like the idea of a set of generic Data tags that could be adapted for diferent uses in different games. If there were a RESTRICTION tag right now I would use it in spycraft but for a different porpose. Weapons in SC have an Error rating which is the flip side of a critical hit, currently I put it in the SPROP but I'd like to have it in its own tag. Perhaps if we had multiple SPROP tags (SPROP1 - SPROP9) which could be adapted for use as needed in each gameMode. The gameMode could define the name of each SPROP for that gameMode and the GUI would pick that up. So in the MSRD gameMode file SPROP1:Restriction would alow the GUI to display "Restriction:Your text here" in the info pane when that piece of equipment was selected. The OS would only need to have |SPROP1| to output, LST files would only need SPROP1:Your text here in the data files. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Paul W. King (kingpaul) Date: 2004-10-12 05:19 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=277877 As I said earlier in this thread, I think I look at the tags differently. 'Restriction' is a defined term in the equipment write-up. Because of this, I'd like to see a tag that this information instead of forcing it into SPROP. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Eric Beaudoin (ericbeaudoin) Date: 2004-10-11 14:21 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=324612 Well, I don't see any syntax to review yet. Unless the question is "do we need new tag?". I would say no for the same reasons Tir did. We add tags only when we know we will use it. In case of items, it's mostly game mechanic related since nearly all descriptions goes into the SPROP box on the csheet. If you add new tags for these, you need to come up with a tag syntax for the .lst and token syntax for the CSHEET. We will also need to produce special csheet for these items so that your new tags are displayed. If we do not have to do that, I rather we don't. Still, there is more and more needs for a specific data for a gamemode or even rule set. I think I will resurect the the idea of a generic DATA tag couple with a generic DATA token that would allow additionnal data with a label to be added and used without having to modify the parser. Paul, the ball is in your camp. If you really want tags and tokens, you need to define them and convince us that there is enough possible reuse for them to be include in the standard syntax. If you need help designing them, ring me on IM and I'll give you an hand. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Paul W. King (kingpaul) Date: 2004-10-07 14:23 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=277877 msrdequipmentbasics.rtf "Restricted Objects Some objects require licenses to own or operate, or are restricted in use to qualifying organizations or individuals. In such cases, a character must purchase a license or pay a fee to legally own the object. A license or fee is a separate item, purchased in addition to (and usually before) the object to which it applies. The four levels of restriction are as follows. Licensed: The owner must obtain a license to own or operate the object legally. Generally, the license is not expensive, and obtaining it has few if any additional legal requirements. Restricted: Only specially qualified individuals or organizations are technically allowed to own the object. However, the real obstacles to ownership are time and money; anyone with sufficient patience and cash can eventually acquire the necessary license. Military: The object is sold primarily to legitimate police and military organizations. A military rating is essentially the same as restricted (see above), except that manufacturers and dealers are generally under tight government scrutiny and are therefore especially wary of selling to private individuals. Illegal: The object is illegal in all but specific, highly regulated circumstances. << this table is going to look ugly, I apologize >> Table: Restricted Objects Registration Rating License or Fee Purchase DC Black Market Purchase DC 1 Time Required Licensed 10 +1 1 day Restricted 15 +2 2 days Military 20 +3 3 days Illegal 25 +4 4 days 1 Add to the objects purchase DC if the character tries to buy it on the black market without first obtaining a license; see The Black Market, below. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Andrew McDougall (tir-gwaith) Date: 2004-10-07 13:14 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=208239 Change in a Wealth check or no? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Paul W. King (kingpaul) Date: 2004-10-07 13:03 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=277877 The '+' is used to denote how much more dificult it is to acquire the item. Perhaps we look at things differently for data. This is a clearly marked field for a piece of equipment. Therefore, I want to see a tag to place it in that is the same field. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Andrew McDougall (tir-gwaith) Date: 2004-10-07 10:42 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=208239 A bit. I don't see the need for a new tag. Filling in on the SPROP seems the logical place to put it, and it won't require trying to figure out where to put it on the OS real estate. If we did a new tag for every kind of text field, we'd have hundreds... Ok, what does the +# mean? Is THAT part used somewhere? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Paul W. King (kingpaul) Date: 2004-10-07 06:59 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=277877 Does this help? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Paul W. King (kingpaul) Date: 2004-10-07 06:45 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=277877 AFAIK, this doesn't impact any other aspect of the program. Currently, this information is placed in the SPROP tag. I just thought it would be more intuitive to place this info in its own tag. I see no reason to have this as anything other than a text field. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Andrew McDougall (tir-gwaith) Date: 2004-10-06 09:41 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=208239 Paul, can you spec it out? Tag syntax, OS token syntax, etc? Do the numbers mean anything mechanically that another part of the program might need? Otherwise, free text might be extremely easy to add... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=384722&aid=1041465&group_id=25576 |
