Hello Joseph! The option on the preference page only has an effect when you activate "Automatically Generate Equipment" a few lines above it. If you do that, the equipment list will list plate mail, dagger, and everything in all available sizes. That may be a bit much. I find it easier NOT to use that option, but activate the checkbox for "Auto Resize" on the Inventory/Gear tab (lower right quadrant). That makes it so that whenever you add equipment for that character, it is converted to the correct size.
