King (kingpaul) >Assigned to: Andrew McDougall (tir-gwaith) Summary: [RSRD] Cost of adding new abilities to magic items Initial Comment: I think this is a data issue, but it may be code. I'm starting here. I can create a +5 suit of armor (type doesn't matter). If I want to add a +5 natural armor bonus to the armor, it says the incremental cost is 50k. Per MagicItemsI.rtf, 'Adding New Abilities', this is wrong. "A creator can add new magical abilities to a magic item with no restrictions. The cost to do this is the same as if the item was not magical. Thus, a +1 longsword can be made into a +2 vorpal longsword, with the cost to create it being equal to that of a +2 vorpal sword minus the cost of a +1 sword. If the item is one that occupies a specific place on a characters body the cost of adding any additional ability to that item increases by 50%. For example, if a character adds the power to confer invisibility to her ring of protection +2, the cost of adding this ability is the same as for creating a ring of invisibility multiplied by 1.5." So, adding the +5 natural armor bonus to the suit of armor should cost 1.5x the cost of an amulet of natural armor +5, or 75k. Paul W. It would seem that the 50% additional cost is applied only in certain circumstanceses which PCGen has no way of prerequisiting. Since this is a rare occurance and the price can be manually adjusted for those that use this rule I suggest we lower priority on this and shelv it for now. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Frank Kliewe (frank_kliewe) Date: 2006-08-29 23:53 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1241568 Err, have you found an agreement on this yet? -- Frank ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Paul W. King (kingpaul) Date: 2005-08-09 20:11 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=277877 Tir, I'm pretty sure that row is not for this intention. Look at the example they give, helm of brilliance. That magic item has a large spectrum of abilities. Also, if you read the description of 'multiple different abilities' below the table: "Multiple Different Abilities: Abilities such as an attack roll bonus or saving throw bonus and a spell-like function are not similar, and their values are simply added together to determine the cost. For items that do take up a space on a characters body each additional power not only has no discount but instead has a 50% increase in price." ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Andrew McDougall (tir-gwaith) Date: 2005-08-08 19:58 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=208239 >From Table: Estimating Magic Item Gold Piece Values Multiple different abilities Multiply higher item cost by 2 Cost for a straight item with Natural Armor +5 is (5^2)*2000 = 50,000 Cost for +5 Armor = 25,000 Higher cost is Natural Armor, so multiply it by 2. 50,000*2+25,000 = 125,000 Original cost for +5 armor is 25,000, so incremental cost for adding +5 Natural Armor should be 100,000. Wasn't that fun? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=750091&aid=1254335&group_id=25576 |
