To get this to come out right you need to go to the Hit Points preference, set it to Average and check "Do not apply Racial Hit Dice" if you have "Maximum HP at First Level" also checked. This is what most sources I've seen use to calculate HP in the stat block and this worked for me for the Caryatid Column (I got 47). Each instance of x in the tag will be applied to one level granted by the kit for the race or class line the HITPOINTS tag is on. If the kit grants more levels than there are instances of x in the HITPOINTS tag then the last instance will be used on all subsequent levels. Where it is used: On lines begining with RACE or CLASS. Example: HITPOINTS:MAX|RANDOM The first level granted will have maximum hit points and each level thereafter will have a random number of hit points. HITPOINTS:4|7|3|5|75% 4, 7, 3 and 5 are assigned to levels 1-4, 75% of the hit die is assigned each level after that. HITPOINTS:MAX|AVERAGEUP The first level granted will have maximum hit points and each level thereafter will have an average rounded up number of hit points. HITPOINTS:AVERAGE Levels granted by the kit will have an average number of hit points (this is the normal default used in most monster sources). Additional it is desired to have a way to overide the kits method if the use wishes to use an alternate method, Tom proposed: Why don't we change how kits are applied? When a Kit is clicked, it should allow an information screen to allow customization. In this case, it presents all of the HP rolling methods and identifies the default for that Kit. That way, the user gets a visual reaction; those wanting the default click through (apply) and those wanting to customize can customize before they apply.
