Category: Installation and Environment >Group: For 6.0 Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Jenni Merrifield (strawberryjamm) Assigned to: Andrew Wilson (nuance) Summary: Fails to load custom data if not under main data dir Initial Comment: REPRO STEPS 1. Launch PCGen on a Windows machine with PCGen 5.8.0 installed 2. Open the preferences dialog 3. Select the Location settings 4. Change the "custom" directory location to something that is NOT beneath the "data" directory. Example: Existing Data Dir: c:/program files/pcgen/pcgen580/data Existing Custom Dir: c:/program files/pcgen/pcgen580/data/customsources New Custom Dir c:/documents and settings/username/my documents/pcgen/customsources 5. Close PCGen 6. Create a custom data file and save it in the directory you selected as the Custom directory 7. Open PCGen OBSERVED The custom sources in the specified custom directory are not loaded EXPECTED The custom sources are loaded. WORKAROUND Move BOTH the data directory AND the custom directory, ensuring that the custom directory sits beneath the data directory. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Martijn Verburg (karianna) Date: 2005-09-04 11:11 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=252169 Thanks nuance, I will assign this to you :-) - K ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Jenni Merrifield (strawberryjamm) Date: 2005-09-04 02:20 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=931361 No offence intended nuance, but I'd argue that a "a half implemented FREQ" is a bug. If the functionality appears to be there, then it should work when the user tries it. If it's never going to work, then the code that makes the desired functionality appear to be there should be removed. (i.e., either make this work properly or remove the preference to set "customsources" independently from setting the "data" directory, thereby forcing the custom directory to be located under the current data directory. Personally, I'd prefer to have the former done, but would accept the latter if it was deemed necessary.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Andrew Wilson (nuance) Date: 2005-09-02 21:07 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=41667 Yeah, this does not work. I started this about 2 years ago, adding the code to be able to locate the custom directory anywhere under the current data directory was stage one. Right about the same time as I started on this another coder started major work on the LST loaders. It put me off working on it and I didn't finish implementing it. This is not a bug, it's a half implemented FREQ. If you want to reassign this to me I just might get it finished off. That won't be 'til after the Ability changes are done though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=384722&aid=1253045&group_id=25576 |
