Category: User Interface Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Submitted By: david allan finch (sarum) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: TYPEs and PREreqs for Languages Initial Comment: It would be nice if the TYPE tree stuff was added to languages. This would mean that when you are selecting a language you could select them from a folding tree rather than a very long list. ie Quxark TYPE=Alien.OuterRim.TransGalatic English TYPE=Common.Human.TransGalatic Tibbarian TYPE=Alien.Common.Empire It would also be nice to have PREreqs on things like Race so that Languages could be limitied. In some books there are languages that can only be learn by specificied races. Regards ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: James Dempsey (jdempsey) Date: 2006-03-05 08:48 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=558288 Languages currently support PREReqs, e.g. Druidic in the srd35 mode has the prereq PREVARGTEQ:DruidicLanguage,1 to stop it being offered to anyone other than druids. Languages also support type, again with Druidic in the srd35 mode having TYPE:Spoken.Written.Read.Druid.Secret So all that remains to satisfy this request is to display the languages in tree form. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Eddy Anthony (eddyanthony) Date: 2005-09-27 01:36 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=886893 There has been a request to make languages into a more general object so the concept can be used in other skills. This has direct uses in the SRD and Spycraft 2. The SRD Perform skill lets you add instraments as you gain ranks. Spycraft 2 has a number of skills (but not all) in which you can gain skill focuses, Drive lets you focus on vehicle types, Science lets you gain focuses in specific fields as you gain ranks. The difficulty is that it's not always a 1 rank per focus cost. This is the way this needs to be developed IMO. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Devon Jones (soulcatcher) Date: 2005-09-27 01:00 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=107647 nope, we're not touching languages as a part of ability. though there is no reason that in the future we can't convert Languages to be ability objects. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Martijn Verburg (karianna) Date: 2005-09-26 22:43 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=252169 Part of the ability work? - K ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=384722&aid=1080023&group_id=25576 |
