Category: None Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Submitted By: Harry Davis (tanarkus) Assigned to: Martijn Verburg (karianna) Summary: Paper Size export failure Initial Comment: A follow up to bug #906529 that I reported twelve months ago (and hasn't been addressed) When exporting to PDF, the Paper Type setting in preferences is ignored, and always uses A4 sizes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Harry Davis (tanarkus) Date: 2005-08-30 17:53 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=450727 For what its worth... technically, this is a duplicate bug report. The previous one was closed basically stating that it would be too much effort for too little gain to properly support all paper sizes, and that A4 would be the only one supported. I should also clarify that it is not just Export to PDF but normal Printing as well. Tir just mentioned that the team is using A4 for PDFs. Since all direct printing from PCGen goes through PDF, doesn't that mean that PCGen can print only on A4? The A4 page is too long to fit on Letter paper. So, with some printer drivers, an error is generated that the printed page (A4) is too big to fit on the paper used (Letter). ...and when the user corrects it in PCGen by setting it to letter, the setting is ignored and the printer driver error pops up again. (Other drivers don't tell the user that it is going to scale the document, and prints the page on letter with a larger right-side margin than expected) It seems that -anything- related to PDFs, both export and printing, is limited to A4. Exporting to HTML and printing from a browser does accommodate non-A4 pages. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Martijn Verburg (karianna) Date: 2005-08-30 16:51 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=252169 Thanks Tir, I'll chase it from here :-) - K ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Andrew McDougall (tir-gwaith) Date: 2005-08-30 16:41 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=208239 Paper size in PDF export is set by the XLS or whatever file. A4 printed on Letter looks fine. Letter printing on A4 isn't. Hence, we use A4 for PDFs. For more info, contact Chuck Pint (The OS Chimp) Exporting to HTML should use that preference tho. It might just be needing a better description in the UI, so users aren't assuming incorrectly. And a mention in the FAQ couldn't hurt, either. - Tir ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Martijn Verburg (karianna) Date: 2005-08-30 16:13 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=252169 I'll look into it, although I _think_ this setting should be for direct printing only and not export. - K ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=384719&aid=1121465&group_id=25576 |
