  • PC1D is THE standard and simple-to-use solar cell simulator. the use of PC1D for solar cell developers is extremely instructive, allows you to model and understand virtually all essential effects that matter for solar cells. Since it is limited to 1-dimensions, you still need to be able to use your imagination and physical understanding in order to conclude towards 2D and 3D device structures, but PC1D allows you to build and verify your intuition and understanding in order to get into this position. Note, that due to the fact that PC1D uses Maxwell-Bolzmann statistics instead of Fermi-Dirac, and due to other simplifications as well, you should not expect to predict quantitatively ultra-precise results. However, this does not matter much to the pragmatic solar cell developer, if he/she is aware of these issues. Instead, PC1D rewards you with an "easy-and-instructive-to-use" tool for answering virtually all your technical questions about solar cell physics.
