I'll second that "hurrah" for Debian! FWIW, I just switched to a new server box onto which I installed Debian's Sarge distro. It's running quite smoothly. Also, for reasons I cannot explain, it seems to be running with far less memory overhead than the prior system that was running Woody. (I noticed this shortly after setting up the new box, shortly after swapping everything over from the previous server. In particular, the use of system Buffers dropped from an almost constant 95% to 3% or so. Same amount of RAM (512MB) in both machines, but different CPUs -- previous one was AMD Athlon, new one is Via C3/Epic or some such (it's a Mini-ITX 8000).) -David Dan Collis Puro wrote: > Myself I use 5.6.1 because it's what debian woody-stable uses, and I'm > loath to install anything not in stable. > > My Debian stable boxes work so damn *well*, and EVERYTHING on these > boxes is straight from APT. > > As an aside, I also run webgui on my debian testing/unstable staging > box (perl 5.8.2 and apache 1.3.x) and it works perfectly. > > It would be a minor problem for me, (but a bigger problem for folks on > virtual hosting accounts) if WebGUI required perl > 5.8.x. > > -DJCP |
