In light of the recent serious bugs in previous releases rushed out recently (working at a quick pace in part motivated by Francois' latest screencast now being on ShowMeDo), I decided to add a leading zero to PataPata versions to denote it still being "experimental". So the numbering is now following Major, Minor, Revision, as here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Version I plan to always keep the last field (revision) as two digits. We can consider this change as adding a leading "0" major number to existing minor and revision numbers (even though the code said otherwise until the latest SVN commit). :-) So, this makes the current version under development in SVN as 0.1.17 instead of 1.17. Numbers for previous releases have become: 1.01 -> 0.1.01 1.10 -> 0.1.10 1.11 -> 0.1.11 1.12 -> 0.1.12 1.13 -> 0.1.13 1.14 -> 0.1.14 1.15 -> 0.1.15 1.16 -> 0.1.16 And previous proof of concepts can be considered versions 0.0.1 to 0.0.25 respectively. I have updated the naming in the SourceForge release system to reflect this, although I have not updated the contents of the previous releases (which will likely soon be obsoleted and perhaps even hidden at some point anyway). I have also update the history file. I may be introducing an extra zero in the directory name for future file releases (i.e. PataPata_v0117 may be the next) -- although I also may not as that looks ugly now that I write it down. :-) The version number is not referred to on ShowMeDo in any web text or in the visible title bar in the picture of the application. However, a version number of "1.11" is mentioned in the beginning of the audio, sorry. I hope that will not cause too much confusion, and I can also hope that a newer version of PataPata may seem worth making a new screencast at some time in the future. :-) In general, sorry about any confusion (including with any previous screencasts), but I think 0.1.17 will make it clearer to the casual user this software is still experimental and under development more than calling it 1.17 would. I had mostly gone with 1.x to distinguish from the previous proof of concepts, but I feel now I should have gone with 0.1.x to distinguish from 0.0.x. Live and learn. :-) Having made this decision, I personally think the software is starting to feel somewhat more stable and functional. So please see this as adding more room for growth and managing early user expectations rather than in any way indicating a step backwards in functionality. :-) Again, sorry about the inconvenience, especially in regards to previous screencasts, which I know in their own way represent a significant investment of time and energy and image. To be clear, version 0.1.16 (formerly called 1.16) that is currently on SourceForge should be stable and functional (enough) for people who see the ShowMeDo screencast and want to try something. (And if it isn't let me know and I'll make it so). --Paul Fernhout |
