I have been using v 3.28 forever, but after installing Windows 7 I had to upgrade to your newest version, it installed nicely and my data is all there but it won't let me save anything. How do I fix that?

I don't understand - you can't have been using V3.28 forever as it was only released in February 2012. Also, as it is our latest release, I am not sure what you can mean that you "had to upgrade to the newest version".

However, with respect to your underlying problem, are you sure that you are opening the database in Read/Write mode and not Read-Only mode? You can check as it will show either "R-O" or "R/W" in the bottom right of the Status Bar. If in Read-Only mode, you can double click on the "R-O" to change to Read/Write after entering the passphrase.

If it is in Read/Write mode, do you have read/write access to the directory it is in? Note: PasswordSafe cannot request elevation in order to get this access - you have to have it as your normal right.

Note: It is best to keep your database in a separate location than the PasswordSafe program e.g. a sub-directory of your "My Documents". PasswordSafe automatically creates a sub-directory called "My Safes" if you use the Windows installer rather than the zip file to install it.

I'm not 100% sure if this is related, since the OP didn't list the error they receive, but I just submitted bug report #1063, which explains a similar problem to saving in v3.29.

If, in fact, the OP is getting the error, “Unable to create intermediate backup," this could be due to what I believe is a bug in the code when it goes to open the file. If this is not the error then disregard this comment.
