The project's URL on GitHub is https://github.com/pwsafe/pwsafe You're all welcome to fork the repository and send pull requests for any fixes or features. Contact me directly if you'd like commit rights to the main repository. I haven't yet decided how to phase out the SourceForge repository. Hi, This is to announce the release of PasswordSafe version 3.36 for Windows. This is a maintenance release, fixing a few minor issues, as described below. Thanks to Bjorne, David Dreggors, dk, Francois, pm_kan, rafael-x and sauravg for their help in this release. Thanks also to all the users who have provided bug reports, suggestions, and the occasional donation... New Features for 3.36 ===================== [] Specific Entries and Groups can be exported to plain text, XML, or to a new PasswordSafe file. [777] Added command line option to force choice of tall or wide dialog screens. [772] Added a tooltip for the copy-to-clipboard button in the generator. [768] Caps Lock indicator added to passphrase entry dialogs. Bugs fixed in 3.36 ================== [1248] Non-ASCII symbols can now be specified in Password Policies. [1245] Asterisk is now accepted as a symbol in Password Policies. [1233] Don't count unchecked character types in password policies when checking for consistency. [1231] Relax restriction on easy-vision password policy + more consistent UI. [1229] Hex digits checkbox can be selected in Generate Passwords. [1228] Fixed incompatibility with Password Policies generated with previous versions. [1226] Fixed regression in Find toolbar functionality. The PasswordSafe2Go version will be updated soon and available from http://www.shareit.com/product.html?cart=1&productid=300597408&stylefrom=300597408 (Owners of previous releases are invited to contact me for an update) The Windows release may be downloaded from https://sourceforge.net/projects/passwordsafe/files/ (Newest Files): http://sourceforge.net/projects/passwordsafe/files/passwordsafe/3.36/pwsafe-3.36.exe/download (installer) http://sourceforge.net/projects/passwordsafe/files/passwordsafe/3.36/pwsafe-3.36-bin.zip/download (zip file with binaries, for those who don't like installers) http://sourceforge.net/projects/passwordsafe/files/passwordsafe/3.36/pwsafe-3.36.msi/download (Microsoft installer) http://sourceforge.net/projects/passwordsafe/files/passwordsafe/3.36/pwsafe-3.36-src.zip/download (source code) SHA-1 checksums: cd4bbfadbf5a61aa28de6769a172fd5d9c0cb457 *pwsafe-3.36.exe 1478821a832a13e4afa4078d60ae92310892c623 *pwsafe-3.36.msi 22438ad29fd21404abb696ca375bba7ce8390351 *pwsafe-3.36-bin.zip 0afd64e5284435d897b7702d71193026ff228425 *pwsafe-3.36-src.zip The Linux versions should be ready in a few days, and will be announced on the passwordsafe-linux mailing list. Enjoy, Rony PS. - As some of you may have noticed, the 3.36 files were uploaded on the 6th and then again on the 8th. This was due to a last-minute fix. Sorry if this caused confusion. -- Ubi dubium, ibi libertas (where there is doubt, there is freedom) |

Hi, I am working on extending opws <https://github.com/mbacarella/opws> with some features, one of which is a entry query language. I have noticed what seems like an inconsistency with the file format specification and the behavior of the official client. The file format documentation mentions that »Dots entered by the user should be "escaped" by the application.« The specification does not mention *how*, and furthermore it seems that the official client doesn't do any escaping at all. Example 1: I enter "foo.bar" in group, and "baz" in title. The client will show a group "foo" with a subgroup "bar" with the entry "baz". Example 2: I enter "foo..." in group and "bar" in title. The client will show a group "foo..." with the entry "bar". Example 3: I enter "foo..bar" in group and "baz" in title. The client will show a group "foo." with a subgroup "bar" with the entry "baz" These are maybe edge cases. I'd like to know what the intented behavior is - should dots be escaped, and if so, how? Regards, Reynir |

Hi David, Updates to the Czech translations are welcome - thanks for offering to help! Let me know if you can pull the .lng and .po files directly from the repository, or if you'd like me to mail them to you.You can mail the updated files directly to me, and I'll generate the installer + Czech dll for you to test. BTW, there's a mailing list dedicated to PasswordSafe translators: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/passwordsafe-i18n where I pre-announce new versions, and for general discussion of translation issues. Hi everybody, I noticed that there is a file for Czech translation of installer (pwsafe_cz.lng), but it actually doesn't contain any translations. There are also some missing translations in the app itself (pwsafe_cz.po). Since I am native Czech speaker and people in my family use Password Safe regularly and they don't understand English very well, I would like to offer to add the missing translations. So I would like to check if there are any objections. Best regards, David |

Hi, This is to announce the release of PasswordSafe version 3.35 for Windows, as well as a new Beta release, 0.95, for Linux. This is a maintenance release, fixing a few minor issues, as described below. Thanks to dk, mniklas, rafael, sauravg and pm_kan for their help in this release. Thanks also to all the users who have provided bug reports, suggestions, and the occasional donation... Bugs fixed in 3.35 ================== [1221] Support newer YubiKeys in all modes. [1212] In the Flattened List view, keep the icon column, if present, as leftmost, to ensure proper display. [1211] The Read-Only checkbox no longer clears itself after returning from the file selection dialog. Also, the read-only checkbox in XP file selection dialog is handled correctly. [1210] CurrentFile preference is updated sooner rather than later, so last database is set as default for next invocation. Changes to Existing Features in 3.35 ==================================== [760] Password Policy: You can now choose a character set without requiring at least one character from that set (i.e., minimum required can be zero). The PasswordSafe2Go version will be updated soon and available from http://www.shareit.com/product.html?cart=1&productid=300597408&stylefrom=300597408 (Owners of previous releases are invited to contact me for an update) The Windows release may be downloaded from https://sourceforge.net/projects/passwordsafe/files/ (Newest Files): http://sourceforge.net/projects/passwordsafe/files/passwordsafe/3.35/pwsafe-3.35.exe/download (installer) http://sourceforge.net/projects/passwordsafe/files/passwordsafe/3.35/pwsafe-3.35-bin.zip/download (zip file with binaries, for those who don't like installers) http://sourceforge.net/projects/passwordsafe/files/passwordsafe/3.35/pwsafe-3.35.msi/download (Microsoft installer) http://sourceforge.net/projects/passwordsafe/files/passwordsafe/3.35/pwsafe-3.35-src.zip/download (source code) SHA-1 checksums: 49b3947fc355ba73a3b31043f1078b222f1af253 *pwsafe-3.35.exe 5bf85b3eec16c364e93bff032f91b3027d6e7997 *pwsafe-3.35.msi d48eaa4f6e96f910c020b2a5980e347b28b8b837 *pwsafe-3.35-bin.zip b398237a8e14a01c08c74df2ff2b120a50948ca5 *pwsafe-3.35-src.zip Linux packages may be found under https://sourceforge.net/projects/passwordsafe/files/Linux-BETA/0.95/ There are currently packages for current Debian and Ubuntu distros (32 and 64 bit) as well as Fedora 32 and 64 bit RPMs. Enjoy, Rony -- Ubi dubium, ibi libertas (where there is doubt, there is freedom) |

Hi, As both Linux and Windows Unicode has been what we've been releasing for quite a while, I think it's time we remove all the #ifdef UNICODE ... #endif from the pwsafe code, supporting only unicode/wchar_t. This would make maintenance a lot easier (e.g., bug 1220 <https://sourceforge.net/p/passwordsafe/bugs/1220/>). Objections? Rony -- Ubi dubium, ibi libertas (where there is doubt, there is freedom) |

Hi, This is to describe some changes we've made to the solution and project files that affect developers using Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 to build Password Safe. In short, all the MSVS2012 build-related files have had '-11' (*) added to their name (e.g., pwsafe.sln became pwsafe-11.sln). This is to make the migration to newer versions of Visual Studio less painful. If you're using Visual Studio 2012, here are the changes that you should make after updating your source repository: 1. Rename “UserVariables.props” file to “UserVariables-11.props” in src/ui/Windows (and src/ui/wxWidgets, if you're building that version under Windows). These files are not part of the repository, but were created when you ran the configure-*.vbs script. 2. You can also delete pwsafe.sdf, pwsafe.suo and, if you're building wx, pwsafe_wx.sdf and pwsafe_wx.suo. New versions will be generated when opening the new “-11” solutions. Note that pwsafe should be reset as the default startup project, since this informations is saved in the suo files. More details can be found in the README.WINDOWS.DEVELOPERS.html file. In the short term, both MSVS2012 (-11) and MSVS2013 (-12) will be maintained, although the next version's deliverables will be built with the latter. Over time, we'll start using the newer C++ language features that are only supported in MSVS2013 (and in current g++ compilers in Linux). Cheers, Rony (*) Yes, Visual Studio 2012 is version 11, and 2013 is version 12... |

Hi, Release 3.34 of PasswordSafe is ready for testing and translation updates. https://sourceforge.net/projects/passwordsafe/files/Translation_Tools/3.34pre/ Aside from the usual bunch of bugfixes, this release has support for switching to a "Secure Desktop", similar to the Windows Login screen, when the master password is requested. The pos-Windows <https://sourceforge.net/projects/passwordsafe/files/Translation_Tools/3.34pre/pos-Windows/> folder contains the Windows po files for translation. Just send me (or directly commit) the po files with your translations, and I'll build and upload dll files for you to test. Help files and Release notes haven't been updated yet. The planned release date for this version is the last week of July. Thanks! Rony |

Hi, src/core/core.h is auto-generated, same as src/ui/windows/resource*.h, which don't have (or need, as I understand it) copyright notices. I've added notices to the other two. Hi, I'm currently working on packaging Password Safe for inclusion in Debian. As part of this process, I'm documenting the copyright and licensing information for the files that will be distributed. Some of the files appear to be under licenses other than Artistic 2.0, and some of them don't have license/copyright documentation at all. Since there is a mix of licenses in the code base, it's not prudent for me to simply assume that anything that isn't labeled is automatically under Artistic 2.0. For some of these files, I can simply exclude them from distribution, because they're non-essential. However there are a few that are definitely needed, so excluding them isn't possible. As such, would it be possible to get copyright and license clarification for the following files, and perhaps get the relevant information added to the files themselves? The files are: xml/pwsafe.xsl src/core/core.h src/test/gridpane.cpp That would be enough to get me past the current issue. However, if there's interest in a more detailed list of the files that deviate from Artistic 2.0, I would be happy to provide the information I have. Thanks in advance, Bill |

Hi, It's been a while since the last release, so here's a new one to kick off 2014. https://sourceforge.net/projects/passwordsafe/files/Translation_Tools/3.33pre/ contains the installation files of the pre-release version. If you don't want to replace your existing installation, it's best to download the pwsafe-3.33pre-bin.zip<http://sourceforge.net/projects/passwordsafe/files/Translation_Tools/3.33pre/pwsafe-3.33pre-bin.zip/download>file and unzip it in a temporary folder. You can run PasswordSafe from there (pwsafe.exe). The pos-Windows<https://sourceforge.net/projects/passwordsafe/files/Translation_Tools/3.33pre/pos-Windows/>( pos-wx<https://sourceforge.net/projects/passwordsafe/files/Translation_Tools/3.33pre/pos-wx/>) folder contains the Windows (Linux) po files for translation. Just send me (or directly commit) the po files with your translations, and I'll build and upload dll files for you to test. The planned release date for this version is early February. Let me know if you've any problems with this. Thanks! Rony -- Ubi dubium, ibi libertas (where there is doubt, there is freedom) |

Hi, I've uploaded a pre-release version of PasswordSafe 3.32, plus the .po files with the new strings for translation. Schedule: I'd like to release this version towards the end of September. *Testers: *Are welcome to download either the installer program or a zip file with the binaries from http://pwsafe.org/tmp/3.32pre/pwsafe-3.32pre.exe or http://pwsafe.org/tmp/3.32pre/pwsafe-3.32pre-bin.zip respectively. This version merges in the Yubikey specific branch of PasswordSafe. I've a few Yubikey devices that I'd be happy to send to testers/translators, on a first-come-first-serve basis. If you're interested, drop me an e-mail with your (physical) mailing address. *Translators: *The files may be found in the directory that DK set up, which also includes tools and instructions for those interested in making their own dlls for testing: https://sourceforge.net/projects/passwordsafe/files/Translation%20Tools%20for%20Windows%20%28MFC%29%20Version/ (http://tinyurl.com/6fgecno) The new files are under the 3.32pre folder in the above: in pos-Windows for the Windows texts, and pos-wx for the wxWidgets (Linux) texts. I'd also like to release the corresponding Linux version at the same time. Thanks in advance for your help in making PasswordSafe! As mentioned in the v4 draft doc, the number one feature I want to see as part of v4 and perhaps even added to v3, is an official protocol defined for remote access to Password Safe files. My goal here is to ensure that users can use any local client they want with any trusted or semi-trusted server. I've broken this out from the v4 discussion as I think we could create such a protocol definition that offers limited support for v3 as well as advanced v4 support. As I mentioned in my v4 comment, there are a lot of options that range from simple to complex, depending on what requirements the community wants to define. My thinking is that if we were to move forward with such a protocol design, that we could have a two level protocol. The first level being a simple WebDAV based solution where the server is acting as a dumb file transfer server with limited locking capabilities. The second level would be optional and would allow things like per-entry locking and perhaps allow the server access to the decrypted safe(s). Is there any interest in such a system? If there is, would anyone be willing to work with me in implementing it for v3 and/or v4? I can commit to helping design and implement both levels of a moderately complex protocol on the server side; I'd mainly like help with the client side as my C++ skills are fairly weak, especially on Windows. - Paulson On Mon, Jun 24, 2013 at 2:47 PM, ronys <ro...@us...> wrote: > Hi, > > I've set up a page with thoughts on the above, and would be grateful for > any comments, suggestions, etc.: http://tinyurl.com/pwsv4draft > > Tentative plan is to start working on this in a month or so, with a beta > release towards the end of the year. > > Thanks, > > Rony > > -- > Ubi dubium, ibi libertas (where there is doubt, there is freedom) > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > This SF.net email is sponsored by Windows: > > Build for Windows Store. > > http://p.sf.net/sfu/windows-dev2dev > _______________________________________________ > Passwordsafe-devel mailing list > Pas...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/passwordsafe-devel > > -- Paul |
