#1539 Program become non-responsive when touch is used on the Options screen of v3.55.0

v3.55.0 removes the tabs and uses buttons on the Options screen. On a windows laptop supporting touch, if touch is used on the new buttons, the program will popup a dialog saying 'Encountered an improper argument" and become non-responsive and have be be terminated using the task manager.

While I like the new design on the Options screen, the fact that the buttons cause a program freeze using a touch screen is problem for me. Would you consider reverting to the tab interface on the Options screen, which did not have any issues with touch screen use?

Can you help me narrow this down?
Install PasswordSafe with another language (say, German), switch to that language, and tell me if the error message still appears in English or not.

1. Does the problem occur when you click on a button with a mouse, or only when you touch the screen?
2. Please find in https://pwsafe.org/tmp/BR1539/pwsafe64-3.56.0BR1539.exe a special build reverting to the tabs interface. Can you check if this resolves the problem?

The problem does not occur when I click on a button with a mouse. It only occurs when I touch the button.

The computer is a 32-bit Intel Bay Trail processor, 8" windows tablet, so the 64-bit build won't run on it. I've never had any issues with touch using the tab interface and older versions of Password Safe on this tablet before v3.55.

This 32-bit build works great for me. Touch works on the Options tabbed interface like it used to.

Though not a big deal, I noticed that the installer .exe was signed by you, but the pwsafe.exe inside it was not signed. Normally both are signed by you.

Since I can't reproduce this without a tablet, I need your help to track this down.
A debug 32 bit build may be found in https://pwsafe.org/tmp/BR1539/Debug.zip
If you could download and unzip this on your tablet, and while running the pwsafe.exe in that file:

1. Reproduce the problem
2. When the program is unresponsive, find it in the task manager, right-click and select "Create dump file"
3. Attach the dump file to this ticket.

Benign workaround implemented that falls back to old tabs if a touchscreen is detected.

Hi Rony,

I downloaded pwsafe-3.57.0pre.exe and tried it on my touchscreen tablet. I experienced the original issue with it. Should it have detected a touchscreen and use the old style tabs?

I also download pwsafe-3.57.0BR1539.exe and tried it on my touchscreen tablet. It worked fine since it was using the old style tabs.

Thanks for confirming the fix. pwsafe-3.57.0BR1539.exe has the touchscreen detection logic, which will be merged into 3.57.0 by release.
