Parcellite Persistent not persistent
Brought to you by:

I've been using Parcellite for more than two years. I think it's an invaluable addition to a Linux distribution.
I am surprised that items change position in the Persistent field. I can see no need for that. I find it unhelpful when I'm searching for an old friend to find that it has moved.
Is it really necessary?
In gratitude for for an indispensable writing aid.

Philip..Not sure what context you are in here. When does the order change? Can you give me the steps to repeat it please? Mine is not changing, unless I add to or delete from the persistent history. I am also using the tip of the master, and I don't know what version you are using.
Dear rickyrockrat,
thank you for replying. I have to confess, that after receiving
your email, I did some checking.
I'm in the middle of setting up two new computers. I was out shopping
when my 'old faithful' must have got a fan jammed, or something. Dead
as a post.
I had a Mint 19.3 DVD, so I used that on a Hewlett-Packard I'd
bought a year ago, and a discarded Dell T7500 from a friend. I must have
messed up creating the Persistent field on one machine. I'm doing my
writing on one machine while the other is upgrading, and /vice versa/.
Hence the impression that the Persistent field was changing. Please
accept my grovelling apologies for raising a false alarm.
Since you are /au fait/ with the website, perhaps you could delete
the whole sorry drama?
You asked which version I'm using. Both machines are on Mint 20 Ulyana,
and using
Parcellite svn, GTK 2.24.32
We're about to take the plunge, and head for Mint 20 Uma. Wish us luck!
Once again, I thank you for your attentive email.
Praying for your forbearance,
flos

Hello again, ricky.
I'm back again, with further reports.
My machine number 1 has been upgraded to Linux Mint 20.2 Uma. I
uninstalled, then reinstalled Parcellite. I then loaded the persistent
area with the lines I wanted. (It would be useful to be able to load a
text file into this area.) I had the information in the persistent area
in a preferred order. That order was -
My Full Name
Address Line 1
Address Line 2
Address Line 3 (postcode)
My email address
comment (I need this because Audacity doesn't use standard ID3 tags)
My mobile number
A line of often-used special characters
A password for a certain website
I have spent a couple of days ordering items online, registering for a
couple of discussion lists, etc.
The order in the persistent area is now -
My mobile number
A line of often-used special characters
My email address
comment
Address Line 1
Address Line 2
Address Line 3 (postcode)
My Full Name
A password for a certain website
As I said in my first submission to Parcellite, I find this shuffling
of info distracting.
I also regard it as undesirable for most users.
I presume that same algorithm is used in the Persistent area as in the
Normal area.
I realise that reusing algorithms is efficient during coding.
In this case, I am presuming that most users would find it undesirable.
I should point out that in setting the Preferences, under the Display
tab, I put a cross against "Show in reverse order". I do that to cut
down mouse movement; once I click on the Parcellite icon, the items I'm
most likely to want are close to where the mouse cursor already is.
If you find that this shuffling of items in the Persistent area doesn't
happen on your computer, then you probably would like to compare your
setup with mine. I attach the output of my System Report.
Best wishes,
flos

Interesting. It happens when you select an item in the persistent history. hmmm. I should be able to fix that. I will add a github issue....
Thank you for that encouragement, Ricky. I think Parcellite would be
much easier to use, with that fix in place. Best of luck!
