Or the dialog appears but the file never actually saves. Seems to be format specific from testing. I was going to look into creating a patch but realized that although there have been releases in the last few years, the actual subversion repo here hasn't been updated since 2019 (~v2.1). So no point. Not sure if this project is abandoned or going closed source... but unless the author shows up and fixes these critical bugs or drops more recent source for someone else to pick the project up... you...

Now this thread is reaaaallly old, but I just realized that I'm unable to save using version 2.6 on Sequioa 15.3.1 No error sounds, no pop-up box to select folders, nothing. This happens whether clicking "Save" or "Save As"

Independently I did the same and came to the same conclusion, although I did just comment out all the sparkle code. I don't know if this project is actively under development, I suspect not as there are very few commits recently. Strangely the toolbox is visible in Xcode but does not appear properly in the running app. The one control that is visible makes the whole thing white - so I suspect it's the color wells which are filling the entire toolbox. I tried to edit it, to fix this but nothing I...

I then had to upgrade the build version for a number of windows to 'current version' and also re-add the Sparkle framework to the project dependencies, and then managed to get the project to build. Unfortunately it doesn't run properly (the toolbox just shows a black box instead of all the icons, and there are a ton of warnings about deprecated code - I too am on...

Hi Olaf, As you see it's been nearly a decade since my last post. Are you able to build Paintbrush from source? If so: 1. Fetch the source with subversion 2. Go to paintbrush-code/Paintbrush2/branches/2.1 3. Download the patch diff-v-current-svn from my earlier post 4. Apply the patch with patch < diff-v-current-svn 5. Build Paintbrush! I was able to do the first four (the patch still applies cleanly) but the build didn't work. I am on MacOS 15 now so I guess things have changed a lot since this...

I have exactly this problem, and like described above pasting does seem to work when the image is scrolled to the top left corner. Can you please explain how to apply this fix?

I've noticed that only the bottom right quarter of any captured image is pasted. Digging into this I discovered that on the newer (perhaps only retina) displays the screen capture function saves images at double the resolution. Thus this problem. My workaround is to either capture an image 4 times the size of the desired image (with the desired image bottom right) - OR- capture to a file and edit that file in a second paintbrush window. But it would be great if this bug could be addressed.

Yes, can't work around the pasting problem as described. Only having this issue since I got my new Macbook Air, so not even sure where the problem is coming from. But everything else in Paintbrush is working fine!

You should be able to drag the window to where you want to paste it, then click outside the outline, to put it there.

I know this is an old thread but I don't think it's been fixed at all. I have the newest version And all it does when I try to save is just give me the error sound and nothing happens. Even when I try to close out the application it does nothing and gives me the error sound. all I know is the version is 4. something

I just discovered this issue today. I installed paintbrush on my new mac and went to use it while tutoring. I like to go step by step and capture the images as I go and share with the student. I couldn't get it to save my changes after the first save by simply selecting "save." I also tried doing Save As and I was asked if I wanted to replace the existing file, to which I said yes, and it appeared to go through, but when I looked at the file, it did not have the changes. I also tried doing Save As...

until an update is released I have been zooming out and using the actual select tool to select the entire canvas, then cut and paste it into a new note in MacOS' Notes app. Able to get my changes out that way.

Happens to me, with version 2.2.1 on Sierra. In some cases, I'll create a new image by pasting from another source, and then save it ... the saved file is completely blank/white (confirmed via hex dump of file).

I have run into a problem recently with saving files in Version 2.2.1 (20171227) on Sierra 10.12.6,. which may be related to this issue, not sure. Sometimes, when I try to save a file (either created new or opened existing), the Paintbrush menu item turns black, as if the menu was entered, and the error sound is made, but file does not save, and there is no file save dialog for save as, so can't save the file. Workaround is to select all, copy to clipboard, create new from clipboard, then save that....

Hi, I have been a great fan of Paintbrush on Mac for a long time. now, recently since about last month (Feb 2018), I have the same issue noted by others reported here. Its really frustating and makes such a great software totally unusable. I am running Sierra 10.12.6, and I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling paintbrush, issue still doesn't go away. Same for me. This is bad broken. I can save the file once. If I want to make any additional edits, I have to close the app and reopen it. Otherwise, it silently does not save my changes. I'm running Sierra.
