Hello Ivan,

Not sure what you want to archive there, your switchs are manageable 
from the menu 'Configuration -> Switches', the tab 'Nodes' is for client 
that will connect to your network. You should not need to 'register' 
your switches, as having them in 'Switches' will allow them to talk to 
PacketFence via RADIUS.

Usually we DO NOT register the switches via dot1x on PacketFence, 
imagine a case where your switch fail to authenticate, then every device 
behind could not authenticate (as the switch would not be allowed on the 
network).

I want to go into the switch and see what is connected to the ports, 
hopefully this can be done through the gui - it might be difficult
managing and supporting a 1000 switch through the CLI

No, this is not doable from PacketFence at the moment, your switches 
might allow it. If you need to know where one device is and are using 
dot1x, then you will find this information in the RADIUS Auditlog when a 
client authenticate. You should have either the ifindex or the port 
where the device is connected.
