Because the owfs.org is gone, instead of the short one i did go for the long version: https://onewirefilesystem.org/ I'm hosting it on my own server, it only cost me 10 euro a year. I managed with wayback-machine-downloader at github and some conversion scripts to import the archived orginal side. I'm using Drupal for years, this is a Drupal 8 CMS. All content is allready imported. The look and feel can be changed by changing the theme of the website: https://www.drupal.org/project/project_theme If you don't like this appearance , free to look for an other. There is some work still to be done to hook the rest of the pages in the menu etc. Il will work on it so now then later. I hope it can approve you, if you like you can have a login. If "we" don't manage to get owfs.org back, then I would vote for just using owfs.github.io. > I do see many contributors on github, and 5 open pull requests on github. > > BUT : Who is in charge ? Who could "pull" something and clean up ? There isn't really any single individual in charge anymore, but there are a few individuals who every now and then does some commit to the code or handles pull requests, and a bunch of people giving excellent help both here on the list and on the Github tickets. But the community as such is not really pushing forward, the time people can spend on owfs related things is probably limited to helping people out and making sure the important things work. After all, owfs is quite mature these days, the oldest GIT commit holds a Changelog file with first dated 2001.. While still widely used, I'm not sure how much 1-wire the latest home automation generation are using? Anyway, there are currently 4 Members with full rights to the Github organization (/owfs): Jan Kandziora aka ianka Stefano Miccoli aka miccoli Matthias Urlichs aka smurfix Johan Ström aka stromnet, (me) These are currently the persons who are free to commit and merge PRs. I led the migration from Sourceforge to Github, and the others where frequent commiters with push access (iirc) to Sourceforge git repo, so they where added. There where plenty more people with push access on sourceforge, but they had been inactive for a long time and/or did express any interest in access. Hello, I benefitted a lot of OWFS over the last years. Of course it would be very nice to get owfs.org back. If owfs.org is too complicated, take owfs.info for 12 $/year. Or, do some housekeeping, and use the github Web presence. I do see many contributors on github, and 5 open pull requests on github. BUT : Who is in charge ? Who could "pull" something and clean up ? Mike (CCed) has offered to send over EEP transfer codes for the domain in off-list email before, so he is the authorative source on the status of the domain I guess, and can assist (if not too late) whoever wants to pick the domain up. As for the dropbox link, I downloaded the file so I got it offline. It is a couple of hundered of Mbs of random stuff, among other things a MySQL db dump + php files for the site. I would personally guess that it is easier to pick up the interesting textual pieces from archive.org (if everything is there?) and put it into a new site, rather than bringing that back alive and pick up info from there. That said, let me know if you want the file anyway and I'll put it up somewhere. Johan On 2019-05-02 09:12, Colin Reese wrote: > Who has the login info for the registrar account? The old whois information: https://github.com/owfs/owfs/issues/35#issuecomment-480738656 Interestingly enough it seems to be the same if I do a whois right now, and Registry expiration date is May 13th? As for the contents, Mike has previously posted a dropbox link with a full raw dump (mysql db + php files + alot of other things) of the site. Perhaps it held some secret passwords which have now been used to "take over" the site, in case the domain isn't actually expired yet? At least we have a number of volunteers to take on the domain: Matthias Urlichs, Alastair D'Silva, and Nico Bouthoorn, unless I've missed someone? I suggest that anyone who has any opinion or preference on who to take over, should make their voice heard now. Personally I don't have one :) For me, the most important thing is that the source code is available in a public repo on Github, a webpage is secondary. So, until there is a proper owfs github page, I suggest keeping a redirect to the github repo as Mike have done right now (or, if we want to avoid a redirect host, just setup domains towards owfs.github.io as per https://help.github.com/en/articles/using-a-custom-domain-with-github-pages, and clean up the current mock page a bit). Not sure if there is any need for MX records, the only contact point that I'm aware of is the mailing list. Hi Jan, Thanks for your help - again! I started to unplug parts of the network, didn't make any difference, then I remembered that I had seen this before, dug back in my emails and we had a similar email conversation in 2017. By default (I think) Raspbian starts w1 and that interferes with owfs. In case anyone else picks up this thread this is what I did to prevent w1 from running edit /boot/config.txt and comment out the line dtoverlay=w1-gpio reboot I was seeing that message about every minute. It is now an hour since I made the change and there hasn't been a single one! A couple of other questions, * Could this issue have caused the Pi itself to crash? * I know that due to the nature of 1-wire read failures will happen occasionally, but what is the expected failure rate roughly? Thanks Mick On 20/04/2019 19:50, Jan Kandziora wrote: > Am 20.04.19 um 16:47 schrieb Mick Sulley: >> I just had the Pi on my main control system crash. I just had the Pi on my main control system crash. Looking through syslog there are load of entries like - Apr 20 14:47:35 pi-solar kernel: [1816089.721179] w1_master_driver w1_bus_master1: Family 0 for 00.c61100000000.3f is not registered. Apr 20 14:48:00 pi-solar kernel: [1816114.723725] w1_master_driver w1_bus_master1: Family 0 for 00.261100000000.d6 is not registered. Apr 20 14:48:51 pi-solar kernel: [1816165.440416] w1_master_driver w1_bus_master1: Family 0 for 00.a61100000000.5a is not registered. I think this is 1-wire related My setup is a Sheepwalk RPi3 and splitter, with about 30 DS1820 temp sensors and 7 DS2413 I/O boards, Pi and 1-wire are separately powered by Meanwell units I have rebooted and it seems to be running OK, but checking syslog again I see Apr 20 14:17:25 pi-solar kernel: [ 20.147355] w1_master_driver w1_bus_master1: w1_search: max_slave_count 64 reached, will continue next search. and then there are more like - Apr 20 15:26:42 pi-solar kernel: [ 261.951010] w1_master_driver w1_bus_master1: Family 0 for 00.200000000000.23 is not registered. Apr 20 15:27:45 pi-solar kernel: [ 325.543636] w1_master_driver w1_bus_master1: Family 0 for 00.a00000000000.af is not registered. Apr 20 15:28:23 pi-solar kernel: [ 363.463636] w1_master_driver w1_bus_master1: Family 0 for 00.600000000000.65 is not registered. I confess I don't understand the messages, could they be the cause of the crash? Is there a problem with my 1-wire? As always, I would be most grateful for any help and guidance. Mick |

Thanks, downloaded it. Looks like a PHP site based on something "cmsmadesimple" with pages in a mysql DB dump. This rings a bell, think someone mentioned it before. Question is, whats easiest, create something from that, or just use archive.org (https://web.archive.org/web/20190405231200/http://owfs.org/) to create something new? Regarding the domain(s), I guess "we" want to keep them for now at least. I don't mind sponsoring the cost for a year just to avoid thinking about this now (so community can focus on the page) but in the long run the community needs to decide if and how we want to handle it. Mike, would it be possible for you to upload the relevant data somewhere, or provide some link where it can be downloaded? Since I have no idea how the website is set up, I don't really have a clue what "relevant" means in this case.. but page contents is the most important I guess! Personally I'm voting for a technical solution such as described in https://github.com/owfs/owfs/issues/35#issuecomment-481157327 i.e. just keep the domain, and point it to owfs.github.io (or use the custom domain model mentioned). Then no-one needs to keep up with having some random PHP site maintained and secure, but rather we can just focus on the information presented. A big additional plus is that the community does not have to rely on a single person (whoever it might be) for keeping the site working. While it's nice to see that we have people stepping forward to do it, it's natural that interest and possibility can/will change with years (as we've seen here), and from that point of view it would be nice to use an open platform to host it (while there is no guarantee github is there forever..). The "only" two things which needs solving then is * migration of existing content to new site format * keeping up with paying for owfs.org, if we want to keep the domain.
