Features

  • OpenVTSimulator is Virtual Topology Simulator, which can spawn hybrid network on a host machine. The spawned network can consist VirtualMachines, NameSpaces and Switches as nodes.
  • OVTSimulator uses OpenVSwitch commands to configure switches and QEMU for managing VMs.
  • User can attach any SDN Controller with topology if it is needed.
  • It uses Network Namespaces and Virtual Machines as hosts and openvswitch as switches.
  • The script is written in Golang, also known as Google Go.
  • To create a virtual topology, OVTSimulator takes Topology Configuration files as input, which is based on simple statements e.g. connect v1:v1-eth0, s1:s1-eth0
  • User can control VM dynamically also e.g user can spawn/shutdown a VM or even create a new VM which is not mentioned in Topology file. There is no need to modify the config file and respawn the whole topology again.
  • It can also configure different VLANs.
  • OVTSimulator also configures DHCP server for VMs, that will assign IP address to VMs.
  • On exit, OVTSimulator cleans every modification done to system e.g removing all temporary interfaces. It also send shutdown signal and brings all spawned VM down.
  • This can be used to develop and test multiple POCs and innovations.
