Otrplayer is dead. The available binaries work on Sharp ROM and it's
derivatives, such as Cacko ROM.

The binaries are *not* working on OpenZaurus. And author wrote to me in the
past, that he will not update it.

Other peoples checked the sources and found them unmaintenable.

Believe me, I also miss the playing state checkpoints ability. Have not
found analogs in any other programs.

[Otrplayer-users] Congratulations and Feature Request

Hello,

just found otrplayer, installed it, and I REALLY like it. The main point is 
for me the ability to go on at a certain point in a file after 
suspend/resume. This is amazing!

However, there are two points I'd like to have in the player:

- support for 640x480, as I'm the lucky owner of a SLC 860. It would be nice 
to make use of the larger screen

- the ability to browse through directories. I have a large SD card with lots 
of music on it. Many of the file from different directories start with 
numbers, as these numbers reflec the order of the files in the directories. 
So it would be nice, to play the files on a "per directory" base, rather than 
sorting all files in one list. Also startup is very slow if I do not restrain 
the startup searching to on directory or a directory subtree.

Otherwise I really like the player!

	So, 51 seconds. But if otrplayer could startup more quickly,
it would be the best lightweight mp3/ogg player.

And other (easy?) request. 
	5. Set mime-type ``audio/mpeg'' in otrplayer.desktop (like opie-mpegplayer).
		To be able to start playing(quickly) when a music file is tapped
	in Filemanager. ( I am using opie-filemanager.)

Thanks for the input. About how long does it take to load?

I have tried about 50 files. It does look at each file. I will take a 
look and see if it can be speeded up.

	As a sl-a300 (PXA210 200Mhz, without keyboard) user in Japan,
I was searching such a mp3 player for a long time.  I was very impressed 
by the simple and intuitive interface of otrplayer.

	I would like to use otrplayer as a refernce of ``Bird Choirs''
when bird-watching. So I have over 300 short mp3 files in
/mnt/[card|cf]/Documents/Music_Files, classified in directories
such as "Sea-Summer" or "Bush-Winter" etc. So it takes very long
time for otrplayer to startup (checking each file, maybe).

	So I hope following features if possible.

1. Restrict to one directory for searching.
   Or Filemanager like interface in the Player pane.

2. Option ``Do not check file'' for quick startup.

3. Resizing main widget when designating a directory.
	Input box hides away when software keybord pops up.
	(Please see scrn0001.jpg attached)

4. Make otrplayer possible to stay working background.
	If ``CanFastLoad=1'' in otrplayer.desktop works,
   waiting time would be a little matter.

I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate.
You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it.

With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development.

[Otrplayer-users] New version of OTRPLAYER released

I have just released a new version of otrplayer. It is version 3.0 and 
is available at the home page. It contains the following:

1) Now supports OGG files.

2) Bug fixed where if one pressed play right after power on it would 
skip several files. This was due to the CF card not yet being mounted.

3) Added feature where when otrplayer is loaded it will be at the last 
played file instead of at the first file listed.

I have posted a new version of the Zaurus program otrplayer. It is V 2.3 
and contains 2 bug fixes.
1) It now plays MP3 files of the Dual Channel type.
2) File names can now contain German umlauts

I have also added debug output to assist in future problems. Debug 
output can be obtained by running otrplayer in a terminal program with 
the -v flag.

I have released V2.2 of the Otrplayer. It fixes the following bug:

V2.2 betters supports mp3 files on Compact Flash cards. When the PDA is 
turned off the CF card is unmounted from the system and when it is 
turned on it is mounted. This means that during this time MP3 files are 
not available. If one turns off the PDA while in play mode and then back 
on the program will error since for a brief time the MP3 file is not 
available. I have added a delay of 4 seconds so that when the PDA is 
turned on it will start playing in 4 seconds from where it left off.

I have also disabled the automatic update when a CF card is inserted. 
This was causing more problems then it was fixing.

a bug where only mp3 files encoded at 22050 or 44100 Hz played

Just thought I would drop a note to let you all know what I am working 
on for the OTR Player. There is another open source project called 
gramofile. It includes filers for reducing pops and hiss. I am going to 
try and include them in the OTR player. There is a good chance that 
there is not enough CPU power to do the filtering but I am going to try.

I have just released V2.0 of the OTR player for the Sharp Zaurus. The 
new features include a Configuration Tab and a Dir Tab.
The Configuration tab includes functionality to assign certain functions 
to the top 5 buttons on the player. Also all listened to files can be 
removed with the press of a button. Font size on the file list can be 
changed.
On the Dir tab the user can select the directories to search. By default 
this contains /mnt/cf, /mnt/card, /home/root. This will search the 
entire player.
For the Player tab, the file list will be updated when a Compact Flash 
card is inserted.
Several bug fixes also also been made.

I have released V1.1 of Otrplayer. It is available on the home page. 
This version fixes 3 bugs.

1. A check is made for madplay during run time. If not found an error is 
displayed.

2. Package can now be installed to SD card or CF card.

3. Directories searched are now
    /mnt/cf
    /mnt/card
    /home/root

I am now starting on version 2.0 which will add a configuration tab. The 
proposed items I have are:
1. Allow user to assign the Zaurus buttons to any function they like for 
the program.
2. Configurable steps for advance and reverse. Now is fixed at 30 seconds.
3. Always dim light even if buttons are pressed during play.
4. Remove all files that have been listened to (ie Played time is close 
to Length time)
5. Allow user to select directory trees they want to search.

If anybody has other iteas to add let me know.

One bug I noticed, the player does not want to start if the screen is =
rotated to landscape.  (rom3.10 sl-5500)  There are known bugs in this =
rom regarding screen rotation, but most programs will accommodate =
rotation with the right font pack installed. =20

A suggestion for the behavior of the wheel button (the silver button =
below "home" that sits over the zaurus keyboard)  use R & L to rewind =
and ff in the selected file, use up & down single click to control =
volume.  Use Up & Down double click to move up and down in the file =
list, and use the center push to toggle on/pause. =20

This would allow you to control the player one handed without needing =
the stylet.  It would be useful for driving and listening.  Combine this =
with an FM transmitter such as the irock 300w that will transmit to your =
car's FM radio, and you have the makings of hours of rolling =
entertainment.

This program is excellent!!
